Flat Out Wraps
These things ROCK! I love them and they have a wide surface area for filling them up to the brim with yummy vegetables and spread thinly with hummus. They are loaded with Fiber, whole grains, and olnly 100 calories. Six to a package for only about $2.99. Once I left one in the oven a bit too long and it got hard, so I broke it up into "chips" and those were awesome too!!!!
They are made by Bestlife. www.flatoutbread.com
OTher good things: Made with flax, 0 trans fat, 8 grams fiber, lowish on carbs. They come in a few other flavors like tomato as well.
I tried these last week and was AMAZED. Seriuosly, I wasn't expecting much, but since they were all out of my english muffins, and needed another "bread-y" food (I swear I live off of carbs!), I thought "hey why not."
Here is an AMAZING way to make cinnamon chips.... sooo good!
Cut the wrap into pieces, spread with a light layer of smart balance light, sprinkle on spenda and cinnamon, and pop into the toaster over for a few minutes. If you do it just right, they get crispy enough to be chips, yet they still have substance, and you can actually stilll chew them.
I'm trekking to the store again today, and I'm definately getting more! :)
I wish they were only $2.99 in my area
. As far as the sodium level goes--it is about standard -- drink more water...
I roll mine up in a dish cloth and stick it in the microwave for about 15 secs -- warms it up nicely without making it crispy.
Another county heard from: We have some excellent brands here in New England, and my favorite is the oat bran plus flax seed variety. I feel so virtuous when I eat something so healthy! yuch-yuch! There's a protein variety, high in soy, too. And even my school cafeteria has carried several varieties--tomatoe, spinach, herb, whole wheat-- as one of the 8-9 bread choices for sandwiches for at least 7 years. You can't go wrong with anything you do with them.
Craving a sweet? Spread on All-fruit jam and maybe a smidge of your favorite nut butter (almond, peanut, cashew--it's all good, especially at a 2 t-1T limit). Roll it tight, like a jelly roll. Won't kill you to eat it all, or slice it like sushi for cookie-sized bites.
I just found them last week myself, they really are a great alternative to regular wraps. The shape works much better and the sun dried tomato have great taste. I spread some hummus, spinach and other veggies, and a little low fat feta for a great lunch wrap.
I have to try the pizza idea, sounds good!
