Not sure if im posting this in the right forum but here goes
Im an exchange student from Ireland currently studying in upstate New York and since American colleges have horrendous dining options ( at home in college, we have kitchens with all mod cons and cook for ourselves) my diet is limited. My diet everyday is along the lines of
Breakfast-grapefruit, melon, soymilk or fat free yougurt and some type of car like whole wheat bread/bagel/wrap
Dinner-Wrap, broccoli, carrots, eggwhite, bit of tuna, bit of rice, mandarin, sometimes tofu or chicken if it doesnt look too processed but the food options in this place are uncalled for
also-bananas, apples, nuts(almonds, sunflower seeds) are a predominnt part of my diet.
I drink plenty of water.
Thing is i eat the same food pretty much everyday-could this be the culptit. Its SMELLY!!!
Thanks in advance.
Richard
Drink camomile tea, eat fennel seeds before dinner & take digestive enzymes! Also steer clear of sugar free gum (if you are chewing a lot of it)....
Dorm living sucks - and the food options are terrible... can you go buy your own foods that you know won't make you gassy?
You eat a pretty HIGH fiber diet so it seems as if you would be pretty gassy - I would maybe try to increase your protein consumption with fish, chicken, turkey & lean cuts of beef (grass-fed is best) and decrease your fiber intake (specifically reduce some of your fruit intake because fruits are KNOWN to give people gas... and keep em' regular! ha ha)... Oh and those almonds & sunflower seeds are very high in fiber too... Perhaps cut down a bit on those if you can too?
You're only having 2 meals a day? And it doesn't look like you're eating very much in total. Stomach acids working away on nothing will generate a lot of unwanted gas, as will egg whites (chock full of sulphur), broccoli and tofu. There have to be other things you could eat, surely? A pizza or a hamburger with a few fries really wouldn't kill you.
One word "broccoli"
Oh that stuff made me & my newborn little tooters for months until I figured out what the culprit was. It was so bad we thought he had colic! lol
I agree w/ gijane in that 2 meals a day is probably not enough food. I would assume you are also constipated with this stenchy flatulance. Try - TRY to eat more food. Also, you might want to look at what you are eating. Try to switch out a food week by week and see what happens. I would eliminate the banana first and work through the list. Please, eat more and add FATS, such as Olive Oil (perfectly healthy) and a nut butter (healthy fat) rather than the soilds or even in addtion, in order to eat more. Got to try something or you'll be known as the stenchy one :p For real, try these things and after a month or so, see the doc or nurse or even on campus nutritionist. The best to you.
God no-i eat more-3 meals and 2 mini meals--i need to with the amount of training i do its just that the 3rd meal is consisting of the same foods as the other 2.
i have almond butter or peanut butter everyday. its just that food choices are limited here to be changing my diet since i already spent 1500euros on this meal plan before i came over.
i do go to stop and shop here occasionally and buy food to change it up but an exchange student cant keep doing this as it all adds up.
anyway-much better now that i cut broccoli and apples out already and some whole grains. NEVER was constipated though-just gassy.
my problem i think was definatly too much fiber and when i train i crave carbs-my diet was too consisted of too much carbs as id eat more in quantity of them in relation to the other foods. i always eat healthy and its harder here than home in Ireland because of CRAPPY DINING HALLS-who came up with these horrendous ides-no wonder people here put on the freshman 15--too much processed foods. RANT OVER!!!!!!!!!!
ill just have to change it up a bit and not e too dependent on the same foods. only 3 weeks left here though so whoopie!!!
Thanks everyone
