Flax?
I always see so much about flax and how it's good for you and everything...but I have yet to buy any. I have tried it before but it was so long ago I have no memory of it! haha =P
Anyways, I guess I was just wondering if you eat it, if it has any taste, and if it's worth the calories. Do you feel it really makes a difference in how satisfied you are with your meals?
Oh one funny thing, well not funny..it kinda made me mad haha but I was at the store looking at the flax seed and this guy and girl were there right next to me looking at the next item, and the guy turns to the girl and was like, GOD why do people even eat flax seeds? What are they for?! And the girl gave me this nasty look and was like, It's for people who think they're all healthy and into health crap. It's pointless.
Obviously they were only talking like that cause I was there but...hey whatever! haha
I use flax seed (linseed?) in breadmaking to give the bread a little 'bite' but it's fairly tasteless. I've seen it recommended to swallow a few spoons of it neat in a glass of water as a kind of internal 'bottle brush' effect. Sounds horrible! And, of course, some people grind it as a replacement for flour but that seems like hard work.
I add ground flaxseed to baked goods for the texture and Omega 3 fats and fiber. I usually only use 1-3 tablespoons and reduce any oil in the recipe by that amount.
I've read that it can be used as a vegan substitute for eggs but I've never tried that.
I put it on my oatmeal in the morning, 2 tbsp, gives it a diff taste, and it makes it really thick. That way I get some of my fiber for the day.

I use ground flaxseed but have some cereal and some frozen waffles that have whole flax seeds. Their isn't much taste, but it's sort of nutty. I don't like it cooked because it gets gummy. I sprinkle it on my cooked oatmeal. That gumminess comes in handy for things like veggie burgers where you need a binder.
I add 1 tbsp ground flax seed to 1/2 c. low-fat yogurt with some cinnamon for my evening snack. It gives the yogurt a nice consistency, and has a slightly nutty flavor as clairelane mentioned. I also feel that I'm doing something healthy for myself - since it has omega-3 and 6 as well as fiber. It's only 45 calories for the tbsp.
I don't think I could stomach it by itself in a glass of water, though!
DUDE! I don't know what store you were shopping at but damn, those people sound obnoxious!!! I would have thrown the bag of flaxseeds at them and say TRY THEM YOURSELF BI***ES!!! ha ha ha! Oh no, I don't have anger issues or anything! LOL!
My mom and I used to make flax-seed crackers with egg whites & seasonings and BOY WERE THOSE PUPPIES GOOD!!! They were so good that they were addicting, which is the end RACKS up the calorie count by a LOT! LOL - Oh but it does help one thing... constipation! LOL!
my friend throws them in a blender when he's making his protein shakes...I'm going to try it cause the shake was actually pretty tasty. He freezes the seeds so they break easily in the blender and you don't get lots of chunkies.
