i love it. i prefer the seeds whole, because i like the texture, but i regularly throw a couple of teaspoons of the ground seeds on my cereal.
But you do need to choose the foods that give you the most nutrition for the calories they contain.
Here's what The World's Healthiest Foods website says about
Flaxseed
I religiously have 2 tbl of ground flax seed everyday, I mix it in with everything I eat. I mix it with peanutbutter for toast in the morning, add it to my oatmeal, my spagetti sauce - everything to get up to 2 tbls a day.
I use it to lower my cholesterol. It was either try this or go on medication and in 6 mo time my cholesterol dropped wayyy down. I have been using it for almost 2 years now. LOVE IT
I buy the seeds in smaller quantities and then use my coffee grinder to grind up enough to last a week or so. I mainly put it in my oatmeal in the morning but if I don't have oatmeal for a couple of days it's on hand already ground so I can sprinkle it on my dessert or anything else really...
I would recommend keeping opened flax seed containers/packages in the freezer. In no way does the "freezing" affect its texture, but it does keep the health benefits intact. I have used often both cold pressed ground flax seed and milled flax seed. The cold pressed is not suppose to be effective when baked or cooked, but the milled can be used in baking such as breads and muffins. On days I don't have something like salmon or tuna, I usually try to consume 2 tablespoons of flax seed on my salads or added to my cooked steel-cut oats or something similar to those things such as in a whole wheat wrap.
