What the flip pop tarts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote  |  Reply

I just want to point out that I LOVE POP TARTS. all 400 calories per package >:( and I went to the grocery store to stock up on foods and I couldn't find a single pop tart thats been changed for those of us who are health aware.

WHAT IF they made a whole-grain/real fruit type, there are ways to make them better come on!!! Us poor people need a break!

It's weird that there is no real difference in the calorie count between frosted and un frosted, but I get the unfrosted anyhow. Actually ever since I got the vacumn bag sealer, I can allow myself to get poptarts.  I open a pouch, eat one, then reseal the pouch.  At 200 calories, I can fit that one tart into my dayplan without too much problem, and it keeps my variety up.

I once tried their low fat version.  It was only 20 calories less, but the loss of the fat really changed the flavor for the worse.

If frosted and unfrosted have the same calories, why would anyone ever choose unfrosted?

*wanders off, wondering*

(And do people really stick them in the toaster, I used to just eat them room temperature!)

I remember back in the day when I used to love pop tarts and eat them all the time too.... Oh, the blissful ignorance of being un-health and non-weight conscious.

I haven't had one in so long.

I suppose theyre sort of like nutrigrain bars too... thats junk too, IMO.
haaa i remember eating poptarts ALL the time. oh the joys of having a growth spurt. but um yeah i think amy's makes a toaster strudel type thing, if i remember right it's still not very impressive calorie wise but i'm pretty sure it's better than poptarts.
I miss Pop-Tarts.......i havent had one in SOO long. They should make healthier version.
Lucky for you guys...I just walked into Jewel-Osco yesterday, they just released Whole-Grain poptarts, didn't try them though. God I used to love poptarts....put the hot fudge sundae or mint ones in the fridge....oh my god.
The only have low fat ones...they are still pretty bad 190 calories each and still alot of fat >.<

Is it 400 for ONE poptart ... or two?

And I do agree... a healthier version would be nice.  They do have low fat ones, do they not?

400 calories for 2 poptarts. They are 200 calories EACH.

Im thinking they should make whole grain ones or atleast regular ones with SUGAR FREE fruit spread/preserves. It would lower the calories drastically.
Ooopsies yes they did come out with whole grain poptarts...The strawberry one is 190 calories (its like eating a low fat poptart) and the Brown Sugar Cinnamon one is 200 calories (Same as a regular poptart only made out of whole grain). Even if they are whole grain...they are still pretty bad. Moderation people! [=

Whole Grain Strawberry Poptarts

Whole Grain Brown Sugar Cinnamon Poptarts

I still stand by them NEEDING to make sugar free poptarts. lol.
Kankan,

Not relevant in the slightest to your post – but just wondered where you were from.

I’m from Birmingham (UK) and never heard anyone outside of my family use the phrase “what the flip”  :o))))))

I actually like the Stawberry ones either way. xD

They do make a brand of 'toaster pastry' at Whole Foods that is pretty good. Blueberry, chocolate, strawberry...POMEGRANTE. Heheh, they get creative.

I used to eat pop tart frequently.  They are much better warmed up in the toaster. If I couldn't use a toaster, I'd warm them up in the microwave, but they're not as good that way.

Oh, and the fudge varieties, hot from the toaster with a little bit of ice cream on them.  Oh man, that brings back memories.

I almost never eat them now. The step kids eat them all the time, so they're constantly in the house, but they don't even tempt me. Just way too much fat and calories, and they taste so processed. If I'm going to eat a bunch of fat calories, I want quality.

my kids love them too, so I buy some at whole foods that are organic.  At least they aren't getting artificial colors, flavors, additives, etc.  and they like them just as well.  They are high calorie, high sugar, but I do think kids need to have some treats.  I just try to keep them away from all the unnatural additives that I think are scary.

So... while you might not find "diet" options, there are some "healthier" options - at least to some degree!
Try these natural & healthier version of Pop Tarts: http://www.naturespath.com/products/snack_foo ds  (Scroll down to "Toaster Pastries"). Just make sure it eat only one at a time because they have 200 cals each.

I LOVE pop tarts and there were one of those things I ate constantly when I was overweight...but now that I am maintaining I have the low-fat pop tarts (come in frosted strawberry and maple brown sugar) which are 190 calorie a pop tart and lower in other areas than the regular one's and taste EXACTLY the same to me....I also have the pop-tart to go bars sometimes (140 calories) in lieu of a Nutri-Grain/special K bar...they taste exactly like pop tarts too (well they are pop tarts in a smaller bar form) and are lower in calories if you just want the flavor...

I know there are organic pop tarts made by Annie's and I think Nature's Path also in my grocery store, although I have never tried them since their calories/sugar etc. pretty much match regular pop tarts...plus I just like the kellogg's pop tart brand the best

Lol! I'm from Colorado!!!  Not exactly the UK but hey maybe I'm outta my element here!

And I think you all are underestimating my love for poptarts! I'm not the "just have one" type a girl!!!

And for mollymouser oh the possibilities!!! Strawberry and cinnamon ones are my ABSOLUTE favs. But the cinnamon one is ONLY at its best when heated. The strawberry one is good both ways, personally I like them toasted then I get to slide the frosted side off and make mini-frosted poptarts and then eat the other half solo! Yeah okay... now that I've scared everyone off.... lol

Alton Brown teaches you how to make your own ;]  Try 'em.  They're really not that bad.
