Got flu?
It's 2:30 and I am awake because I feel terrible. 10% of my office is sick with the flu (suspected H1N1). I think I might have it too. (I am hopeful that I don't though)
50 kids in my sons school have it
260 kids in a Denver high school have it
Is the H1N1 flu showing up in your area?
I think my hubby said that the H1N1 has already reared it's head in our area and should be over with in a couple of weeks. The concern is that it might show back up later, with a vengeance. Anyone who had it during the mild wave will be a lot better off than those who get it during the second wave.
Hope you feel better soon. Lots of fluids, etc. And rest.
Yes it is (Texas). From what I have heard, though, most of the cases of H1N1 here have been more mild than seasonal flu. The worst lasts ~ 2 days and then people start to feel better and fevers have been moderate (100ish) and not really high. So that is the up side at least.
But yes it's hitting quite a lot of folks around here. My fiance is a coach for HS football and their last 2 games they've had less than half their team at the games due to flu.
Several folks at his school, daughter's school and at my work have gotten it as well. We all got vaccinated for regular flu as soon as we possibly could, several weeks ago. But the H1N1 vaccine just became avail. here the past couple of days and we can't get it yet.
Wash your hands like crazy! Resist urges to touch your face, nose, hair! Gargle with warm salt water! Drink hot tea! Use a netty pot in your nose or swab out with warm salt-water on q-tips! Those are the best tips I've heard :)
ps: OP if you do have the flu, I'm sorry! I hope you get lots of rest and that you're one of the ones with the short flu.
(I had the regular "seasonal" flu last year and that's the worst I remember feeling, pretty much ever in my life. It was horrible.)
I havnt had the flu in 6 yrs thank god. I think I heard about the H1N1 hit a few towns over from me I think in the summer but I havnt heard anything eles yet.
The vast majority of cases reported are mild here. I'm just relieved there aren't an overwhelming amount of severe cases. Yay.
It could be a false alarm since H1N1 is on your mind. Either way: Take good care of yourself.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
I've just been sick since Thursday night and am wondering if I've had H1N1. There's a buttload of conflicting info available on the internet. Some sites say that stuffy/runny nose and or sore throat go hand in hand with both H1N1 and the common cold. Other sites say these are rare with H1N1.
Anyway I've got sick very suddenly feeling an initial tightness in my throat. Next I was very tired and achy, got a fever for several hours, then the next day throat was better but more of a runny nose, a bit of coughing. I'm sneezing alot lately too.
That said I'm sure I'm getting better and I hope it was H1N1 because now I've had it and I'm done with it :) Anyone else want to share symptoms and compare notes?
There's two people in my department (10 people total) who have been out for at least a week and they don't normally call in sick.
I got my H1N1 vaccine. Hopefully it works. And the mercury in it doesn't kill me. Just in case it isn't that, I'm still washing my hands like crazy and trying not to touch my face.
I hope you feel better. Chicken soup is awesome.
I heard the best way you can tell if you have the flu is if its completely sudden, like you feel like you've just been hit by a semi. And high fever, which is rare with a cold.
By the way, has anyone heard of this swine flu "parties" people are having? You know the idea that some parents have that when a child has chicken pox they get all their kids together so they can all share the germs and get the pox together and get it over with? Yeah well apparently people are doing that with the swine flu too. :-s Crazy.
Actually according to the CDC you don't have to have a fever to have the swine flu, it seems optional. heheh. There are also many cases of people with little to no "flu-like" symptoms out there who are dying from swine flu. Chances are if you feel crappy, fatigued, headache + any other or NO other flu-like symptoms you have H1N1 and that's per many doctors out there and the CDC. Stay in bed and take care of yourself! Get well! Oh, and really bad news: you can get it again! I'm not happy about that since I suspect I've already had it per many doctors and the CDC.
I had a cold.

But I thought those that were exposed back in the '70's have some immunity to this current swine flu, and you'd think it would have mutated since then. Biology boggles my mind!!!
If it mutates, it's not the same thing. Therefore you're not "getting it again." That's the way I see it anyway.

Yes if it mutates but I have no idea what the rate is. All I know is that I've become obsessive about wiping down equipment at the gym and washing my hands often. It was soooo friggin humid in there I'm sure the buggies were just happy little breeders!
Thanks monalisa, you're links put my mind at rest. I already knew that having H1N1 would not give me acquired immunity against influenza the rest of my life :) just against this strain.
