I'm not sure about tea, it may count as fluid intake. However, I'm pretty sure that coffee should not be considered the same as water. In fact I've heard it reccomended that you drink an equal amount of water with any coffee in addition to your regular fluid intake.
i dont know about the tea i think it is a dieretic *scratches head on spelling* try drinking crystal light if you dont' like water its yummie!
According to Nancy Clark, MS, RD and internationally renowned sports nutritionist states in an August 2005 article that talks about whether or not coffee counts towards fluid needs. Her answer is a resounding Yes. "All fluids count--plain water, juice, soup, watermelon--and even coffee. The rumor that coffee dehydrates people lacks scientific support. Yes, coffee can make you urinate more in two hours??but not in 24 hours. Even during exercise in the heat, athletes can consume coffee and not be concerned about dehydration."

But I agree that crystal light is a very yummy way to consume water without being blah and boring. Crystal Lightcicles are also a nice summer time treat!

I'm with Coachdee... fluid is fluid.... there are soooo many nonsense myths out there and this is one of them... of course.. you are getting other things with coffee and tea that you dont get with water.. and if you are sensitive to caffein for example, you might want to evaluate..
I was born in Finland and my ma had me drinking coffee for breakfast when I was 2 years old... guess what? I drink about 12 cups a day..

I am on a doctor supervised diet and was told that black coffee, tea, diet soda, crystal light all count as fluid. The key is to drink minimum 64 oz. fluid per day and 32 oz. must be pure water.
*smiles* Nice to see you back coach!
