fluttery feeling in chest--heart or just paranoid?
Today as i was walking around the parking lot [freezing, for what that's worth] looking for my car after class, I had this weird fluttery feeling in my chest. It's the kind of thing I have had before and normally associate it with too much coffee, but took special note today because I actually hadn't had my normal coffee due to being in a rush all day. I got in the car and it continued, so paranoid like I am, I felt my pulse and my chest for a heart beat. It appeared that my pulse was at a normal rhythm, so I assumed I was just overreacting after reading about things like palpitations and whatnot.
I'm still curious if anyone else has an idea what that could be? Or if it's something to be concerned about?
Episodes of arrhythmia (palpitations) are pretty common and usually non life-threatening. If you associate it with drinking coffee - a stimulant - it could be that the stress of 'being in a rush all day' brought it on this time.
If it happens more often or if you're worried then do talk to your doctor.
Given you have so many stomach troubles and are underweight, Tears, I'd take it seriously even if it turns out to be harmless.
I have had what feels like bubbles rising in my chest area; been told it was asthma stuff; like heart burn. At first the sensation of bubbles inside me was freaky but guess it was like the doc said, a side line of asthma.
If your pulse was normal it's nothing to worry about. Everyone gets that every now and then... it's a queer sensation but it means absolutely nothing in the presence of a regular steady heartbeat. That is, it means absolutely nothing if it only happens once in a blue moon - if you keep on getting it, or it gets worse or feels weird, go and get checked out just to make sure everything's okay. Every now and then I get a momentary feeling like my heart skipped a beat - so I stop and take my pulse and it's always perfectly normal and steady...
Definitely get checked out.
I used to get it all the time and I went to the doctor as my family has a history of heart problems. My EKG and all that good stuff were normal but then they took blood and checked my iron levels --- which were extremely low, dangerously low, such that the doctors put me on iron supplements immediately. Once my iron levels went up the flutters went away.
It could be PVCs (premature ventricular contractions.) I've had them for almost 15 years. I've been on and off heart meds for it. I'm currently off.
In my particular case they aren't a danger, only nerve-racking. But they can be a sign of something more serious.
My advice is to get it checked out by a doctor.
I bet it's really nothing, but this isn't something you want to guess at.
Take care.
Ack! Problem is I can't see a Dr. because I have no health insurance at the moment. :(
How I wish even a simple check up [much less the needed testing!] were available these days...
I guess "for now" my question will have to be how should I react/cope based on what I can feel with my body...
Doing fine now with how I feel [aside from a nasty stomach ache].
I Am anemic, so maybe it's part of that...which hopefully is on the mend...
