Foie gras!!
Ack, I love this stuff. But I noticed that a tablespoon of it is so many calories! Like today I downed about 400-500 calories of the stuff. How do i avoid them at buffets? They're just asking to be eaten by me! XD

Hey all of you,
I am really sorry if i have offended people, but hey what can i say, Yes i like foie gras and im sorry if its from the french culture (then wondering why france is known for its food... hum....because its real food) anyway, i know how they are made but as others have said there are plenty of other stuf you put in your plate that are treated as nice as the ducks but you just dont know about it...
I could have been more rude in my post if i actually wanted to say what i thought of other cultures... where they dont mistreat animals but humans mistreat themselves... what do you think all the fast food companies are doing to humans eheheh and the thing is humans dont even need a tube put down their throats to be fed fat they do by themselves...
Anyway, foie gras is part of our culture, and yes it is full of fat but arent all good things unhealthy...
There is one restaurant here in Siem reap cambodia and they do foie gras on sweet mango... its really yummy, the combination is great..
And i am proud to say im ok with my french culture
i know your point wasn't to offend people. i realize that. but i just can't understand how someone could understand exactly how this stuff is produced and knowing that it's not only not necessary for survival but actually really bad for you and still try to defend it.
i have things that are from my culture that i wouldn't defend either. i'm not saying that i'm not proud of my culture or that you shouldn't be proud of yours, but if you are proud of everything from your culture just because it's your culture, that's not a very good reason.

OP,,
I'd say just eat it in moderation. I'm not a huge fan of the stuff taste-wise, but just try to have a little bit if you crave it. I have a hard time with french food, it must be this damned Italian background. It must be hard for someone who is a fan of it, you know, kind of like reaching into a potato chip bag and reaching in again...and again.
Or padding the butter on a blueberry muffin... .. HUNGRY NOW.
whenifly,
This is about alternatives and moderation relating to Foie Gras, not a discussion on the ethical treatment of ducks. The OP obviously doesn't really care, and enjoys their heritage.
I hate to break it to you, but just because you find something disgusting doesn't make you the representative of absolute truth, your opinion is entirely subjective. Some of us actually like to eat things that used to have a heart beat, so there's my subjective 2 cents on the matter.
my opinion isn't subjective. as a living thing i really don't like to see things dying or being tortured unnecessarily. this is obviously something that is not necessary. no one needs to eat this stuff. it's very bad for you.
Fried chicken isn't exactly good for you either =\ But people eat it. I just like the taste of foie gras >_< Although it isn't good for me. But I don't eat it on a regular basis; I just eat it if it's available to eat, since I'm a big fan of liver.
edit: omg, I just finished watching that youtube video...I can't believe that the people working there are so cruel to the ducks...however, I think that the cruel treatment I saw seemed more based on the sadistic tendencies of the people themselves rather than the supposed process of fattening the ducks, although I think the methods they have to go through, like force feeding, are definitely inhumane. =.= Although, I have to admit, I think animals are treated similarly at farms where, say, pigs are fed a ridiculous amount of food for our own consumption.
