For my mom's birthday she decided she wanted to go to "The Melting Pot" which is this really good fondue restauraunt (I think it's a chain, you may be familiar). Anyway, I have a feeling this meal could be absolutely LOADED with calories. I want to enjoy it so what should I do? I already know I should probably avoid the cheese, but does anyone have any other advice?

you can find the website at themeltingpot.com

Pleaaaase help!

I've been to the Melting Pot before, and the food there is super yummy.  Honestly, I think your best bet would be to eat a nice dinner there and not worry about the calories.  It's a pretty expensive restaurant, and it would be a shame to miss the chance to eat such yummy food!  If you really feel like you need to limit your calories when you eat there, they do have yummy salads, but I think you should just go for it and enjoy your mom's birthday with her.

Thanks, the more I look at the menu the more I think that's what I'll do. I mean, I'll skip the cheese, but there's no way I'm skipping desert. I'm thinking I might order the seafood trio, I'm just wondering what kind of oil I should get. I'm thinking maybe the cholesterol free canola oil but I'm not positive. I don't even know how I would go about logging this in!

you dont have to log. heck, i've only logged my cals 10 times &i've been a member for over a year. it's one day. go for it!

fondue is probably my most favorite food in the world. enjoy it!  it is one of lifes true pleasures!  dont worry your body will not rebel against you :)

oh i just love the melting pot!! we went there for dessert before prom last year. AMAZING. i suggest you eat like a salad or something light for dinner but definitely DEFINITELY enjoy the dessert. it is amazing.

You can get broth for the fondue instead of oil and it's quite tasty.  If you're concerned, make some trade-offs, i.e. broth instead of oil, maybe just a little cheese and chocolate fondues.  If you eat a lot of vegetables and chicken and shrimp cooked in hot broth, that won't have a lot of calories at all, and will help to offset the higher calorie parts of the meal.

You have restaurants dedicated to fondues in the states?!  What a genius idea!!

I'm emigrating! Wink
