What food calorie amount makes you suspicious its really higher?

Are theyre any food items - grocery or restaurant - that make suspicious theyre really higher?

Or maybe you believe it but find it very surprising its as low as it is.

Mushrooms. I find it hard to believe that 100 grams is 20 calories.

Ha - that was one of mine!  I did notice though a BIG carton of fresh shrink right down with much liquid so thinking it has to do with them not being dense at all with much water content but still its a surprising number :D

red salmon..... and zucchini!

Blueberries, mainly because their count is soooo much lower than raspberries.

well, i always doubt the menu of sit down restaurants. sometimes you can find the calories online, but then you order it and while you are eating it, you *know* it has to be more. i've also read a couple articles (don't have the links), where people went into restaurants and ordered stuff and had it analyzed, and the fat and calorie content was way higher than they claimed it to be.

I think, generally, calories are silly because you just never know for real. How is it that one can of chickpeas is 131 calories for half a tin, but another is 143? And so on. But they're still good guidelines and I just roll with it obliviously. XD

I know that when I get a McDonald's ice cream cone it has to be more than 150 calories!

I know.. suspicious isn't it? For me, it's definately those 100 cal mini popcorn bag

i'm actually suspicious of most prepackaged foods, which definitely includes cans of beans, soups, cereals, any and every nutrition bar, cookies, rice cakes.  ever compare the nutrition labes of completely different varieties of the same line, like double chocolate brownie cookies v. like oatmeal raisin v. chocolate chip v. snickerdoodle, and the nutrition facts are exactly the same?  totally unlikely.  or strangely enough, the nutrition percentages are switched around (like a granola bar w/peanut butter in it will manage to have fewer carbs, i suspect to maintain calorie total w/the increase in fat/protein grams).

The broccoli and cheddar/cauliflower and cheese Green Giant frozen thingys.

 

I eat them SO much, and I never gain weight so they must be accurate.

 

But I mean - they're SUPER cheesy, and depending on the kind you get, 125-150 calories.

 

I know that almost ALL of the calories are from the cheese, though, since veggies are pretty light...

but still.

they're almost too good to be true.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

I generally trust what it says unless something doesn't add up and it makes me think otherwise....which makes me wonder why I normally trust it.

eg. I had a bag of frozen calamari and it was say 175g. It said cals per 100g and cals per serving (half bag) and the serving calories were HIGHER than the calories per 100g which CANT be. Half a bag is LESS than 100g because the bag is LESS than 200g so how can the calories be higher?

Things like this make me worry but I went on the per 100g thing and thought maybe the company made different sized bags and put the same 'per half bag' on this smaller bag as on a bigger bag by mistake? But if they can make that mistake it makes me wonder what other mistakes they (and other companies) can make :(

Also plums and Kashi Golean. (I get so suspiciously about the cereal that I always count it as 150, it can't be that low!)

My parents frequently buy stuff from Asian supermarkets and the things that actually have nutritional information usually have suspiciously low calorie-counts and strange nutritional stats.  I don't think they're accurate at all xD.

All the Walden Farms dressings and dips claim to be calorie free. Hard to believe that anything you ingest (besides water) is calorie free, but, hey i'm going with it... What I really hate is when you are reading the nutrition label and everything appears to be good until you check the serving size and it is some ridiculously low amount. For example: Today I was looking at some bran muffins at Trader Joes, calorie count: 110, carbs vs fiber checks out as well, however the serving size is... get this.... HALF A MUFFIN! Who in the hell is only going to eat HALF-A-MUFFIN?! I think it ought to be against the law to list half of anything as a serving....

there was a post awhile ago about a cc-er who bought a mcdonald's icecream cone and when they went home and weighed it, it was twice the weight the website claimed it was, therefore basically doubling the calories. :(
