I would really love to hear some responses to this question. This is such a hard area for me as well. We hardly ever cook over the weekend and usually go out to eat/take out on Friday nights. I do great during the week with work and our normal schedules but the weekends are killers! ![]()
Any suggestions???
Stephanie
well this weekend i didn't do tooo great, but i wasn't too bad either.
i eat the same stuff for breakfast everyday at work, so on the weekends i actually like to cook myself breakfast. my favorite right now is to scramble tofu (to take the place of eggs), soy sausage (no fat! tastes awesome), cheese, and potatos (throw in peppers and onions if you like them but i'm not a fan). i'll have some fruit on the side and with that i have a nice protein packed breakfast that's healthy, low fat and holds me for a long part of the day.
same for lunch, i like to make something quick, light, but different then the work week. i might make a wrap (wrap, salsa, cheese, lettuce, soy chicken strips), a whole wheat english muffin with peanut butter and jelly and side of apple, or something else just "different" but light... or i might just snack on veggies and hummus or something
then dinner... if i'm going out to eat i try to work it in. if i know i want a big meal i eat my earlier meals lighter. if i don't mind having a light meal and the point is more for socializing i'll eat something before i go out. i try to stay active during the day then too so i'm burning a little more. i usually only go out friday or saturday night (heck i'm broke too so that's a seperate motivation).
me and my boyfriend have also become fans of fonduing. sure the fondue isn't the healthiest (loads of cheese and beer!) but we chop up and assortment of veggies and fruits and then it balances out :) we'll also snack on fat free popcorn with no cal butter spray or pretzels and salsa during movies.
i think the biggest issue is just planning ahead and accounting for what your going to be doing. if we're drinking a lot one night we might make time to go for a long walk the next day and eat lighter. it's definately tricky though when your not in the "routine" of the work week :/
Believe it or not, I have the best luck at Chinese buffet restaurants. I always eat a salad first, even though it usually isn't very big. Then, I stay away from anything fried. I usually look for something like crab meat and/or shrimp in a light sauce. Most of the time, it's just cooked in a little butter. As long as you can control your portions, it's not too bad.
this is copied RIGHT out of my journal (which i record on paper, rather than CC)
Friday Journal:
11:30 apple, half of a Kashi GoLean Roll
1:00 salad with tuna, dressing, and vegetable soup.
6:00 hummus and cream cheese on a pita wrap, vegetable soup, other half of Kashi Bar
10:00 banana with peanut butter
1:00 am Kashi whole wheat crackers with salsa and cream cheese
I don't know why cooking is not an option for you on the weekends, but if it's because of social obligations, like mine was, you could try this: Have your friends over to your house for dinner instead of going out. Ask everyone to bring a bottle or a dish. There's nothing wrong with asking someone how something is prepared.
Or you could always try cooking extra at the end of the week for ready-made weekend leftovers.
mmm... leftovers... (;
I have the same problem only what I have done is this:
When I look at the menu, I look for meals that are more complete (have protein and vegetables).
I never order pasta or potatoes.
I eat slow (conversation).
I drink a full glass of water before the food is served.
I don't order appetizers.
I do eat the bread! If they serve bread, I eat it. That way, I feel like I have indulged a little. I don't order seconds on bread.
I decide how much food I am going to take home before I start eating.
I look at leftovers as two meals for the price of one.
Not perfect but it helps the calorie intake not go too high!
How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
