I have no food control...what have I done...

Quote  |  Reply

So my brother is coming into the city today, and I'm going to show him around (lots of walking!!). Because of my diet (vegan, and trying to lose some weight), I had a fair-sized breakfast to hold me over, and was going to pack a lunch to bring along since we're probably going to eat out somewhere, which means I won't be able to have much.

So I had my filling breakfast, and as I'm making my sandwich, I start eating it!! I had just had breakfast! I took two bites and was like, oh my goodness what did I do?! I need this for later! But two bites soon became three, and pretty soon I had finished half of it. In my head I kept hearing, what are you doing, what are you doing, but my mouth kept eating!! Before I knew it...my sandwich was all gone.

I feel absolutely ashamed of myself now. What is wrong with me?!! I feel disgusting...

Nothing is wrong with you. I am like that at times as well. I can be stuffed from dinner but food appeals to me constantly. I don't want the food necessarily but just the taste in my mouth because it is so good.
Are you nervous about your brother's arrival?  How is your relationship with him?  What did your filling breakfast consist of?  These are the first questions that popped into my head upon reading your post.  When we eat compulsively, it tends to be out of some emotion we are feeling that we feel we need to "stuff down".  I don't know if you have a compulsive eating issue, but eating a whole sandwich right after breakfast tells me (A) you are nervouse about something; or (B) you were still really hungry.

Take a look at the reasons, then adjust if you can.  If you are hungry today because you need more food, have more food.  Pick healthy things to bring along-fruits, nuts, maybe a piece of string cheese.  If you are feeling emotions about something, then acknowledge it, don't beat yourself up about the slip up, and move on to enjoy your day.  You deserve to have a great time on your Saturday.  Good luck!

Maybe your body knew you needed more of something. I don't eat red meat, I won't even touch it. Yet sometimes I will sit there and think "OMG!! I want a hamburger so bad!!" So I usually eat something with a lot of iron then that feeling goes away. Plus, what likely happend was, you put a limit on yourself "I cannot go out and eat this or this, "I have to eat what I packed today and nothing else". Thats just like saying "Don't touch this red button", You're going to do it. I'm the exact same way. If you've been watching your calories and its a special occassion or you just want a treat, there is nothing at all wrong with having something extra or special. Just make it a healthy choice not like fries with cheese and sour cream. If you really want the fries make your own homemade oven fries or get the fries when you are out a small order without any toppings. I have a cheat dinner once a week and I haven't stopped losing weight in 2 months. Its almost like doing the zig-zag diet. Which keeps tricking your metabolism. Plus, with working out and watching the rest of the time your body will burn those calories up. Don't be so hard on yourself, you're trying and thats whats important! Hope this helped you out some.

hey....laydeee....dont freak and dont feel ashamed. your putting your body into a state it does not go into naturaly. event though your not physically starving your mind knows that something is up and so you are focused on the one thing you want to avoid.

if i said to you dont think about a pink elephant above my head. DO NOT THINK ABOUT IT. the first thing you would do is tink about it coz your not supposd to. so be easier on yourself. its just your mind trying to say.....you dont have TOTAL CONTROL OVERE ME!!

these things happen. think less about the sandwich making procedure in future. especially the "dont eat it dont eat it do not eat it" comments!

Don't worry about it I do the same.

I eat then think rather than think then eat. As long as you don't end up screwing up the rest of the day you're good.

Try to make your later meals smaller when you over eat.. try to do a little more exercise.

After all there is not perfect plan and we're not perfect either. You didn't commit a crime.

Good Luck

I believe you are perfectly normal.  You body was just craving whatever was in the sandwich and probably anticipating your brothers arrival made you nervous to boot.  It is hard to lose weight so don't kick yourself.  Just make a note of the activity and try and plan for more snacks rather than eating one big meal in one sitting.  I break mine up into 6 small meals so I eat every two hours. I have seen some benefit to doing it this way. Good Luck
