Food not getting digested?

Quote  |  Reply

This might be gross, beware.

But when I go for #2, sometimes I can see there are bits of undigested food in there. Most of the time it's fruit and veges, like strawberries and oranges.

Does this mean my body isn't absorbing food like it should? I know it's not gonna kill me if I dont absorb a few strawberries and an orange, they have so little calories anyway, but it's not normal right?

This MIGHT not be the answer or what you're looking for, but this reminds me of an article that I once read

http://www.poopreport.com/Doctor/Content/corn .html

No, its not as gross as it looks.

It just explains how our digestive tracts are becoming less efficient as we evolve.

Hi ieevee!

This happens to me too, especially with apples, peas, corn, mushrooms (If they are of that tiny sort they come out whole sometimes :S), raisins, all bran and carrot, not with strawberries though! Sorry, I know it sounds disgusting, but I thought I might have had a problem with digesting food too. I think it's due to the fibre and roughage content of the food though?

I've just accepted that if my body doesn't make use of it, its because it did not really need it !

Very fibrous food can often pass undigested through the gut.  Sweetcorn is a classic.  To make this less likely always chew your food thoroughly before swallowing .... take your time over meals by sitting at a table.... don't bolt food down or wash it down with a drink.

hey the most likely answer would probably be that you aren't chewing well enough...

agree with gi-jane..

certain foods high in celulose/fibre/or general fruits and vegetables aren't easily digested...especially if you don't chew well....

for me this was happening after going on antiobiotics....it turns out that the flora in my digestive tract needed time to replenish since the antibiotics really effected them - my doctor suggested taking time away from eating the "culprit foods"....i stopped eating peas/carrots/mangos/corn for about 3 months and ate a lot of yogurt - now it's a rare occurence...it can also be a condition referred to as food intolerance - you can find a lot of articles about this online...or it can be a sign of IBS or colitis.

so it's more likely chewing - but if it's persistent see a doctor.
