Food and Fitness...BMR and that stuff...
Ok I wanted to ask the question in this forum because I think I will get the best answer! In the past year I lost over 130lbs. I completely changed my diet (high proteins, rich complex carbs and no empty calories or as limited as possible) I don't cheat, I don't snack...and life is great! I am addicted to endurance events and triathlons more specifically! So here is the question...
When I was losing all the weight I was limiting my calorie intake to around 1,200 calories a day...I started at 6'3 321+ lbs!...I am now at 6'3 (didn't shrink any yet) 198lbs...I run around 30 miles a week (sometimes more, sometimes less), I swim a bit, and bike anywhere from 30 - 100 miles in a week. I am now eating over 3,000 calories a day and not gaining any weight...I also have been taking in over 300 grams of protein everyday! I feel great, but a little like I am creating a monster...anyone have any advice, or a similar story?
Wow 1200 calories, you were definitely starving yourself, you're lucky you didn't have issues from it.
I'm female so I'm only eating half the calories but my initial impression is that you are a big guy that is very active - so yeah I expect you to eat probably twice what I eat while I'm trying to lose.
Your protein levels do look a bit high. I'm not sure if this forum would be the place to ask the question - do you visit triathlete sites? I'm sure the forums there would have better guides of how much protein to eat during the day.
Buddy, I am 6'2" 190 lbs. I don't run 30 miles a week. I don't swim and I don't bike but I do eat clean, no cheating, and lift weights daily. At most I will run 2 times a week doing HIIT training. I eat 2700 calories to 3000+ calories daily. I am losing weight. (That is my goal right now--shedding body fat). I eat about 1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Basically about 40% of my diet is protein, 35% is carbs and the remaining 25% is healthy fats. When I go into my bulking phase I will consume 4000 calories. The fuel needed to build muscle. Yeah you can create a monster--if by that you mean a large male that has to eat lots of food. Triathletes eat lots of calories and therefore food to fuel the machine. But who doesn't want to eat more and still not gain weight? And by the way congratulations on your personal accomplishments. Don't know if that helps you at all.
Yeah it does...I guess I am just afraid that no matter how active I am, if I eat as much as I am, clean or unclean, I will put the weight back on...but I guess that is just a mind thing! I do need to hit the weights more now though...that was a major thing that I did while I was taking on the largest amounts of weight.
