Do you have a "so what" food?

Quote  |  Reply

I usually hate topics centered around fattening food that we miss... they just make me hungry.  However, I think it's important to remember that we need to keep ourselves sane while dieting, and it's my opinion that completely denying ourselves of everything we want can lead to a break in willpower... and an end to the diet.

That being said, is there any one food that you eat without remorse - and just say "so what?" to the calories?

For me, it's a Starbucks latte.  Sure, I get mine with nonfat milk, but I order a Grande... and no, the syrup I choose isn't sugar-free... and yes, I add whip cream.  So what?  I want it most mornings.  I think that, if my diet didn't let me have it, then I would just eventually stop dieting.

For some people, maybe depriving yourself of everything you want works for you... but for most of us, I don't think it does.  So, what is your "so what" food?

Every Saturday morning I treat myself to a grande nonfat Pumpkin Spice Latte, which I think is a little over 200 calories. I drink that and usually have a Luna bar for breakfast....not the healthiest breakfast but it's my saturday morning treat :)

holiday desserts, i will always let myself have it. (especially my aunts home made cookies)

I considered doing that... perhaps if my willpower starts to dwindle I will try it.  Is it working for you?

I don't have a specific food either... I just go crazy on sundays xD
still counting calories though, so I know where to stop.

Sunday is my "rest day" from working out. I drive into the city 20 minutes... I park my car at my old Italian Nonna's house. We walk down to the local breakfast joint (If you're ever in SF it's called Breakfast at Tiffany's on San Bruno Ave - great place for good home cookin). Anyhow, you cannot ever say no to Nonna... and diets? lmao, yeah that's just rude.

So every Sunday, I have: 4 egg white omelette w/ spinach, muchrooms, onions, garlic, and tomato (no avocado or cheese or yellows to cut the cals a little). Comes with potatos that my aunt loves so I push them off to her. We eat, and drink about 4 cups of strong coffee and then cap it with an espresso.

Then the killer: my Nonna passes her homemade sourdough to me... "He-ya, have some dough... it's good with the 'spressa". :). And yeah we eat 4-5 big slices of sourdough... sometimes with butter (real butter) and sometimes with jam. It's around 500-600 cals for breakfast alone but the experience is un parallel.

Love sundays.

Really good chocolates. I've given up candy bars and sugar in my coffee, peanut butter, cheese, deap fried anything, and bread, but I make room for good chocolates.

  • Soft pretzels
  • Dark chocolate
  • Veggie/Fruit muffins

^^

gummi candy, like gummi bears, swedish fish, sour watermelons, etc.

i used to buy them ALL the time but now i just reserve them for special occasions (aka trips to the mall where they have a candy store where i can pick 1-2 of each type i want!!!!)

For me it's good old greasy Mexican food. About once every two weeks I have to go to one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and order whatever I want and not worry about it. It keeps me from feeling like I'm always on a "diet". Geez, now I'm getting hungry :)

OMFG, how did i forget about mexican food? i freakin' love it! it's definitely not a so-what food though, 'cause once i get started, i ain't stoppin' till it's gone! (mexican...delicioso!)

Brownie cookies! And chips at a mexican restaurant. I say "Meh. These are delicious so who gives" Oh and can't forget my booze :)

But they are only on occassion, not daily of course :)

Buffalo Wild Wings!!

8 Boneless, down the hatch, no regrets ;)

well...i'm in college so any food that i get for free i say "so what" to I love free samples  and free scoop days at ben and jerry's and going to club meeting that  i know i'm never going to join just to eat free food lol somehow it just seems like unhealthy food you don't pay for can't be bad for you

I agree with the chinese food one! Sometimes there just isn't a replacement for it!

Also, when I'm at restraunts I have so what meals sometimes. Like if I know I have enough calories I will order a steak/chicken breast with fries. If you get fries with a plain meat rather than a burger, they give you less. At least that seems to be the trend around here!

...But I'm not complaining...what I don't see, I won't miss!

I basically live on vegetables (tomato lover! :) but about once a month I absolutely indulge (and don't care about nutrition!) in ...

... Pizza!

Cool

I say "so what" to the calories in Olive Oil & Flaxseed Oil because they are both extremely healthy oils that do the body tons of good no matter how many calories you consume from them! Plus these oils make all food taste AMAZING!
