Too much food

Quote  |  Reply

I need some suggestions on what to do about getting my calories in each day. I have been doing well until the last few days. I just can't hold all the food I need each day! I am eating 1450 right now I had been eating 1500 but have lost enough to drop 100 calories. I eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack each day right now I have eaten 873 calories today and I'm full to the gills and can't think of another bite going into my body. Is it that I am eating foods that are too low cal. My food today consisted of this menu

Breakfast

1 egg,fried with pam

2 slices farmland ham

1 slice natures own white wheat bread toast with low cal butter spray

Hot tea with sweetner

Lunch

A ll I can say is- Congratulations!!

Well, your lunch would be good - if you were a rabbit! I've never understood why people want to fill themselves up with celery and other totally 'empty' foods and then say that they're 'too full' to eat enough calories. Eat your protein and the important stuff first and THEN snack on raw vegetables afterwards to fill in the gaps.

Well, you could eat a few handfuls of nuts or have a big glass of milk or juice. But in the future it sounds like you need to plan out your meals to make sure you're getting enough calories. Your breakfast looks good, but your lunch is more snack-sized than meal sized! You could certainly add 300 calories to your lunch and throw in another 200 calorie snack or dessert to reach your calorie needs.

Thanks for the advice. I did get another 290 calories in which got my calorie intake for the day to 1163 but I still have 287 that I didn't get in. I will have to try eating 500 for breakfast and lunch and then 450 for my evening meal that way I'll be sure to get the 1450 in each day. Thanks again! I usually always plan my meals but I didn't do it for today so I guess the small lunch is what did it.

Man, I wish I had your problem ... !!

How much do you weigh that 1450 cals is enough? It's still very little!

Even so, a handful of almonds, a nice tall frosty glass of soy milk or a slice of bread with peanut butter is an easy and relatively healthy 200 cals. How about a heartier lunch, what you are eating is barely a snack in my world?

Your whole day is about what I have for lunch most days.

Definitely start exploring some nutrient dense foods, perhaps an avocado instead of celery sticks, try using actual butter instead of Pam.

If you really need to just bust some calories in, use olive oil instead of Pam when cooking your eggs- or butter.  Or drink a glass of 100% juice.

However looking at your lunch that is pretty sparse.  Personally my body would be PO'd if that was all it got mid-day, but if you truley dont feel hungry- then look for more calorie dense food.  Maybe trade the celery for something else you like that packs a little more punch.  Or trade your apple for a banana ect..

Ok lets look at how to up these calories, shall we?

Breakfast - have two eggs, two pieces of toast and add a piece of cheese to that and make a breakfast sandwich!

Lunch - your lunch is realy a snack.  Have chicken salad - cut up chicken breasts and add some low fat mayo, celery, onion, salt and pepper (grapes if you like them) and eat that on a bed of lettuce or a whole wheat wrap.  Or just a regular sandwich on light bread, some ham or roast beef, some swiss, a bit of low fat mayo.  Or pita bread and hummus mixed with chopped up veggies like broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, tomatos. Keep the apple and string cheese if you still need calories, lose the celery

Snacks - have a yogurt and/or a banana.  Have some carrots with hummus.  The pecans are a good choice.  Other good choices if you really can't fit in food: Have a protein shake.  Use 1.5 scoops of protein and shake it up with water, or skim milk if you need another 50calories (I only use a half cup of liquid with my protein).  If you want a real treat, mix 1.5 scoops of chocolate protein, a couple spoonfuls of PB, some ice and water in a blender.  HEAVEN.  Add some coco powder if you like it more chocolaty.  I like Designer Whey for this.

Dinner - YOu have no carbs at dinner.  Don't fear the carb.  Carbs are OK to eat.  Have some quinoa, brown rice, or a roasted sweet potato.  Drizzle olive oil or flax seed oil on your fish, or a spoonful in your yogurt, to get in some GREAT healthy fat calories.

If you are really too full to eat all your calories, drink them.  Drink protein shakes or just 100% juice or even milk.  Eat more often, eat a snack every 2 hours or so.  Food is your friend, love the food ;o)

That's my weight loss calorie level, and I'm 66 years old and completely sedentary, as in sometimes bedridden, with a burn of only 1660.  I go into starvation mode at the drop of a hat, so I really try to get my calories up to 1300 and have at least one day a week where I get up to maintenance at 1600 or so.  While I can't say that I'm too full to eat, or that I feel "stuffed", I sometimes have no appetite and even forget to eat, but if I keep on top of it, I can add a little to each meal so this doesn't happen.

to the OP - You're so young and shouldn't have the metabolism of an old lady, so make sure you reevaluate your caloric needs, especially your burn.

My first thought in seeing your menu is, where's the fiber?  You'd maybe do better to have a high fiber cereal and some fruit along with your egg, instead of the high sodium, ham and bread.

I agree - have a better lunch.  You could make a 3 bean salad ahead and have it with whole grain bread or crackers. Save the celery for between meal snacks to stave off hunger.  Instead of cookies, have extra nuts.

My favorite solution if I'm short on my calories is to have a glass of milk and some almonds at the end of the day.

I'm 5 foot 3 and 52 years old. I weigh 214.5 as of the last 5 days and have dropped anymore weight. My calorie intake is 1450 per day. My other problem is I'm eating too much fat. I thought I should be eating a 30% fat,20% protien and a 50% carb total each day am I wrong? If I am what should I be eating? I usually always go over the 20% fat here the last few days. My burn calories are 2200.

So this morning I had 2 eggs, with pam,1 cup oatmeal with sweetner, 1 slice regular bread toasted with low cal butter spray, two thin slices of bacon(110 cal)

How about some ice cream?
