I like Kellogg's All Bran with extra fiber. Serving size is like 1/2 cup, 50 calories, 13 g of fiber. It's really filling and about half your daily fiber needs.
Hi there!  It sounds like you need to add more fiber in your diet!  Here is a link that will help you out! http://www.nexiumresearch.com/constipation_fi ber.html

Drinking lots of water will help (plus their are no cals), and I have found that eating oatmeal (I like the flavored oatmeal) is a great way to help with constipation, and it will keep you full longer (that's a benefit of high fiber foods).  Many fruits are also high in fiber, and low in cals.  Hope this helps!
WOW thank you so much crazineko for that web site it is really helpful, you won't believe how bad I want to have a bm.
Just be careful as too much fiber causes constipation, but that's normally an extreme.

However, some sorts of fiber found in certain foods (fruits and some oatmealy type things) can also increase gas and bloating, which isn't comfortable (my problem for past few weeks), so try to eat insoluble fiber instead ... such as in vegetables.

I say go with prune juice, prunes or raisins to really get things going.
Coffee, for sure.
OMG nycgirl maybe that is why I feel so damn bloated then. So what is isoluble fiber then. I am going to find some raisins.
Um. All the suggestions above were awesome.

My sister was in all kinds of pain because she hadn't had a bm in so long. She didn't even realize that was the problem. But, she continued to go to doctor after doctor ... after doctor.

Then finally one caught it. Nobody had thought to ask her if she'd had a bm.  They even told her she was making it up. They  urged her to see a psychiatrist because she was 'crying out for attention.'But, she complained about her stomach pains enough that finally a doctor caught it. She hadn't had a bm in so long it was backed up and poisoning her body, making her sick.

There is a orange-ish looking laxative drink (  kinda like a soda ) that they sell at the drug store. She tried fiber suppliements, but it wouldn't help. Neither would a suppository because she'd gone so long without a bm. But, that soda like drink did the trick. She was constantly going back and forth to the bathroom randomly throughout the next day and half. Just ' I gotta go!' type running to the bathroom. But, on the bright side it really did help her, and she had a serious lack of bm beforehand. So if all else fails I would suggest that drink they sale at the drugstore.
Watermelon is supposed to be nature's laxative :) and yummy!!
Eat cherries. They work wonders.

I think food laxatives depend on the person. I have not had a bm for 3 days, and i eat carrots, figs, prunes, oatmeal, etc. I am going to increase my fat intake as it is at 10% currently. Maybe that will lubricate it!
Don't overlook something simple as drinking water.  Plain water really helps with constipation.  Be sure you are getting at least 8 glasses a day of water if you are having problems with bms.  I have had this problem for way too many years and when I am having the most trouble, I realize that I am not getting enough fluid in. Also food co-ops and bulk sections in grocery stores sell plain old wheat and oat bran- that can be sprinkled on your regular cereal or even in vegies.  First step, drink water.  I think most of us are dehydrated and don't realize it.
enchantingimage, was it lactulose? i used to take that when i was sick and it really helped. it tastes so sweet though i was worried about calories although there is none. its quite expensive here though but it definately works.
Hey jrs0000,

I have the same problem.

The only thing that worked for me was this fruit 'paste' that my nutritionist gave me a recipe for. It's all nautral, and I think it actually tastes good. Its like thick fruit preserves of jam... anyway, heres the recipe -

1 lb prunes
1 lb raisins or pitted dates
1 lb figs
4 oz senna tea leaves
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of lemon juice

Boil 2 cups of the tea into a large pot, and then add the fruit and let it boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and add the cup of brown sugar and lemon juice. Use a mixer, blender, or food processor to turn mixture into a smooth paste.

It may not be low calorie, but it only takes 1-2 tblsps daily to work, and you can continue it as long as you need. Also, you can store it in the freezer in a tupperware container, and it won't freeze but It will last forever.
