Food log analysis question
This has probably been asked and explained before, but I couldn't find a similar question when I searched the forums. So I'm a little confused by my food log analysis, which so far today is as follows:
Fat - 26.5% (23 grams)
Protein - 20% (39 grams)
Carbohydrates - 53.5% (103 grams)
Alcohol - 0%
Other - 0%
What I don't understand is how my protein percentage is lower than my fat percentage when I've eaten 39 grams of protein and only 23 grams of fat.
The pie chart gives you percentage of calories. Fat has 9 calories per gram while protein only has 4, so your 39 grams of protein is 156 calories, while your 23 grams of fat is 207 calories.
The percentages are the amount of calories from each nutrient, not the grams. Fat has more calories per gram than protein or carbohydrates do.
ok, that makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the help!
Here's another question along that line in that how are the total grams,1197 below, calculated as I can't come up with that total???
Fat - 37.3% (76 grams)
Protein - 26.9% (123 grams)
Carbohydrates - 35.8% (164 grams)
Alcohol - 0%
Other - 0%
Daily Sodium Intake - 1,061 mg
Daily Sugar Intake - 47 grams
Daily Cholesterol Intake - 145 mg
Daily Saturated Fat Intake - 18 grams
Daily Fiber Intake - 38 grams
Nutrition Grade
Date=2009-08-17; Calories=1,703; Grams=1,197; Fat=76; Carbs=164 Protein=123; Grade A
Edited to correct layout that did not hold.
Each time you add a food item to your food log, it tells you how many grams it's calculating.
Thanks for posting your analysis! I've been trying to see someone elses for over a week and no one will post it under "Your feedback is greatly appreciated" So thanks!

Well that's interesting but what do we do with that information if it doesn't correlate to any of the other analyzes?
Thanks for the reply and you're welcome but it was a poor example as I'm shooting for 30/30/40 percentages of fat/prot/carb. You might be interested in the Your week's report thread which reports analysis reports.
