figs work a treat and are way nicer than prunes (in my opinion anyway)!  also, sprinkle flax seeds over oatmeal and thats great to!

I get it just before my TOM and i feel horrible so i normally give in and just take a herbal laxitive which works well!
I can't understand why anybody would choose something refined such as Fibre Plus over this little marvel:

Yep. Wheat bran. Soak it in water, juice or milk. Mix it in with your favourite yogurt. Put it into your soup. Mix it to form batter (for example pancackes). Or, my favourite for breakfast: Soak some cut-up and dried fruit in warm water overnight. Then add wheat bran, wheat germ, nuts and/or seeds and some cereal into a bowl, add more liquids if neccessary (again water, juice or milk) and you've got yourself the best vitamin-mineral-fibre bomb I can think of.

If you need instant relief though, buy senea leaf tea. Works a treat, but be careful not to blow up your loo :D ;)

PS: Cheers, my first post ;)
Has anyone here tried Dannon Activia Yogurt?  As a sufferer of chronic constipation for years, I had practically given up on everything until a few weeks ago, when I gave this yogurt a shot.  I ate one for breakfast, and BAM!  The next day, I was completely emptied out.  It was a miracle!

I know some people who have tried it have said that it only gives you stomach cramps, but I haven't had too much of a problem.  They say you should eat it every day for two weeks, but I just have one every other day or so and I've been doing great so far.
I think everyone is different. I eat TONS of fiber and drink at the VERY least 64 oz of water a day, yet I still can't poop.

For me, it's coffee and a bit of fat free creamer, get's me everytime
My tried and true "unclogger" is a bottle of Magnesium Citrate from the drugstore....it's a simple saline laxative, it costs about $1.25, it tastes way better than epsom salts and it is definitely effective. You just drink it and 30 minutes to an hour and a half later, watch out! You will be clean as a whistle! Doctors sometimes tell patients to drink it before procedures to "clean them out"....good luck!!
coffee works because it's a stimulant.  its effects on the gastro-intestinal system are actually more negative than positive (don't get me wrong - i'm not giving it up!).  it can speed things up a little and help to have more predictable BMs, but fiber is really the way to go!
Usually I'm pretty regular, but the times I'm not, I try to eat a lot of whole grains, fruits, and veggies.  That usually helps.
E-A-T said it best...

WHEAT BRAN.. I'm eating some as we speak.  Doesn't look attractive or taste like chocolate cake, but it's tolerable once you realize the benefits.

Had some monday with berries, milk and protein powder and was "clean as a whistle" yesterday and feeling like I had dropped about 10 pounds!!
LMAO!  I am in tears reading this discussion.  The epsom salt, Fiber one, "stay near the toilet"...LMAO.

On the serious side-be careful when going too much-you'll lose valuable and necessary nutrients and vitamins.

OMG...LOL
Jalapenos!
try coffee or popcorn, without all the butter and salt.
Pinky - have you been taking a multi vitamin lately and you didnt before? the reason I ask is that I recently had to stop taking mine because it contains calcium and iron - and for some people, when they get too much of these things, cause constipation no matter what you eat!
According to my nutrition teacher, wheat bran is absolutely the best for this sort of thing.
For me drinking coffee helps.  My friend eats Kashi cereal and every time she does she needs to use the restroom.
I love it....I go to lunch with two other women once a week and the subject of poop always finds a way into the conversation.

I have had luck with tomatoe products, be it soup or spag. sauce.  Also, increase your water to help move that fiber through.
I have a bowl of spoon sized shredded wheat every moring and that keeps me regular.  In the passed I've used prune juice, a couple of glasses of that and I don't stop until I run clear.
i know it sounds grose but i poo evey time after i eat breakfast i think its coz it has a lot of fiber in for my bowels i have a bowl of scottish oats made with water with some raisins on top then with an apple or banana and skim milk coffee

Liquid Glycerin makes you go immediately. But, you have to buy it from a drug store.

Never eat loads of Fiber or take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time..

Holy cow... I needed that laugh!!!!

I love this question because if someone did not ask it soon, I sure would have!!! It is weird though because now that I am back home (from being at college the past 9 months)... I am a bit more regular, perhaps because of less stress? (I probably just jinxed it though!) - the way I get things MOVINING is by topping my LARGE FIBER-RICH salad with flaxseed oil dressing (flax oil, apple cider vinegar & mustard) = that dressing rocks not only because it tastes yummy & it super healthy for you but it def. helps the whole constipation thing!!!

Mmm... What else: Magnesium! Yea, that works: I have been able to find some sugar-free/calorie free magnesium powers (that you mix in water) in a rasberry-lemon flavor which is really cool ice cold on a warm day or hot like tea! If you live near a Whole Foods/Wild Oats - scope out their healthy section &/or ask someone who works there where you may be able to find that stuff because NOTHING IS WORSE THAN FEEELING CONSTIPATED!!!
