FOOD INC. the movie

Last week we went to see the movie Food Inc. It wasn't really geared towards animal rights. It was more about the dangers and deceit in the USA food industry.

It was pretty scary to find out That the USDA does not have the right to stop production in facilities whose meat is contaminated with salmonella or other pathogens. There is a bill that food safety activist try to get passed but it is rejected every year.

There are a set of laws that make it illegal to say anything against a food company that might cause their product sales to decline and cause perishable food to become unsellable.  This is how Oprah got sued when she said she would not eat a hamburger anymore.
Here is an article that explains these laws

I think this is why we do not see any news about where our food is coming from. In the movie if a farmer allowed the filmers in the big companies threatened to shut them down.  What does that tell us about the origin of our food sources?

The general public has no idea how powerful these companies have become. The infuriating thing is that we subsidize them with out tax dollars and now they control the very vitality of our nation.

I hope more people will go to see this documentary. It is an independent film so if you are interested go to their web site
