I hate the myth that fat makes you fat.  So many people I know have fallen victim to this mentality (myself included, once upon a time).  Fat is good for you in the right amounts, and necessary to maintain a properly functioning and healthy body (especially if you get the good fats from olive oil, nuts, etc.)  Plus it's just delicious and makes everything taste better so you don't go crazy.  On the converse, there are those people who think you can eat unlimited amounts of something just because it's low-fat or fat free.  Sorry, there, pal--it's calories in/calories out.
The Negative Food Theory ;)
lol - yeah...someone twisted the thermogenic effect a little too far.  In theory you have to understand that calorimeters measured the calories in carrots..etc. and they are not negative.  They stroke your dieting-metabolism well, can be very effective during a calorie-restricted diet, and in the scheme of things contain next to no calories.  However you can't just eat unlimited carrots and expect yourself to be skinny. (Certainly cleans the colon, causing up to 10lb loss, but this isn't really "fat loss").  You need calorie-in less than calorie-out to get any weight (fat or else) off the body, and that's that.  Fat Loss is an entirely different subject though you can lose fat and replace it with muscle using this "idea" but you don't lose "weight".  (Anyways, that would require you to be genetically gifted).
I wish drinking a cup of green tea every day would really make 5 pounds magically melt away.
eating after dark will make you fat. Im finishing my degree in Nutrition to become a dietician and we know that your body doesnt know what time ur eating.. and the reason why ppl may be heavier who snack alot after dinner is bc they tend to eat crap (beer, chips, etc).. Its all based on how many calories you eat, not when you eat them.
I'll admit that my teeth are set on edge whenever I hear the myth that 'carbs are bad'.

Better than "carbs are bad" is "potatoes are junk".  Potatoes are about as good as bananas, yet people declare bananas to be "miracle food" and potatoes are on par with Wonder Bread.

mmm bananas and sweet potatoes yum! :D

Eating the crusts on your bread will make your hair go curly. If that were true I'd never eat my crusts and my hair wouldn't be a wild mop!

I'm going to second "carbs are bad."  I had a friend tell me that it didn't matter how many calories I ate as long as I didn't eat a lot of carbs!

If you eat apple pips a tree will grow inside of you!!

While it would be cool if eating grapefruit would actually "burn calories" - it just ain't true.  (And for me, actually bad for my stomach.)

I love the myth that there are worms in your gut that make you gain weight.Cracks me up every time I read the page.

I would love it if the diet that involves drinking alcohol and lying in bed helped you lose weight. The possibilities are endless :-) (mojito or mamosa?)

That celery has negative calories ... huh????

How about this one for kids: If you swallow gum, it will stick in your belly forever.

My personal favorite is the one that says that soy hurts you because _______________ (fill in the blank: kills your thyroid, gives you cancer, makes men grow boobs).

If you swallow bubble gum, it will stay in your stomach for 7 years.    To me, Bubble Gum is a dessert sometimes.

the soy one is funny..but i actually heard that alot of soy made anyones boobs grow bigger...especially edamame..  i totally wish that were true..oh, im a chick, by the way..

I hate the myth that some people on low carb diets beleive all they have to watch is there carbs. I have seriously watched a diabetic person tell me they are doing good on there diet while eating a huge cheese covered omlet filled with sausage and bacon, with a side of bacon. I could care less if that were true. I think balance is a good thing

You can't forget the ever so popular if you swallow a watermelon seed a watermelon will grow inside of you. LOL! I remembered that from Rugrats!

LOL!  My Grandma always used  to say that if you swallowed chewing gum it would wrap itself aroud your heart!

The only way that a diet can be successful is through severe restriction.  Eating "bad" foods is unnacceptable, EVER!
