The Food So Nice They Named it Twice
Couscous! I've had this glorious food for the first time when I discovered it while lurking the grocery store for anything interesting. At 176 calories per (cooked) cup I figured I couldn't go wrong; I tossed it with diced tomato, olive oil, garlic, boiled egg, goat cheese, and chili powder and it is fantastic.
I've quickly learned that a little goes a long way with this stuff; it has roughly the consistency of mashed potatoes once its all fluffed up, and the prep time is about 3-5 minutes. I'll be adding it to my grocery list from now on, in place of pasta or rice.
So, CC, what foods have given you a pleasant surprise? What new things have you tried and now keep in your cupboards all the time? On that note, what new things have you tried and hated?
Bob's Wheat Bran is in the cupboard all the time but didn't used to be. Good flavor when toasted, 120 calories per cup dry, a high fiber blender for all starchy hot cereals, pancakes and waffles.
Isn't couscous a kind of granular pasta? As far as the double names, Walla Walla sweet onions are pretty good.
Yup! A lot of people think that couscous is a cereal (like rice), but it's actually very very very tiny pasta (granular pasta, as you said).
And it is YUMMY!
