Food Phases...anyone else?
I'm curious if anyone else experiences this... I go through phases which seem to last 2 to 3 weeks, where I only want one single food! I crave it over and over and I can't think of eating anything else. Luckily, its been only healthy foods. I think the first time it was broccoli, and once it was bananas... my roommate thought maybe it was unhealthy to be eating more than 3 bananas per day. I also went through a cereal with yogurt phase, but I stuck to healthy cereals and non-fat yogurts.
Right now I'm in the middle of an oatmeal phase, I'm eating a bowl of old-fashioned oats for breakfast and dinner. I'm making sure I'm getting adequate calories still, but its hard to force yourself to eat a good variety of foods (vegetables, for instance) when all you want is oatmeal. I'm wondering why I may be feeling these types of cravings! Maybe I'm lacking in a nutrient?
Anyone else experience this??
Reason: Released as sticky
I do that too! Oh and eating more than three bananas a day isn't necessarily 'bad' for you! It sounds as though your 'phase' foods are all generally healthy, so I don't see it as a problem! Are you trying to lose weight, maintain, or gain? I'm losing and still at times manage to eat 4 bananas a day! Or like last week I ate 4 bananas and 3 fiber one banana nut muffins! Still maintained my deficit so all is well! hope I helped some!
I've gone through phases too. (^_^)
- oranges
- turkeydogs
- bean wraps
- apples
- and a bunch of other things that I don't quite remember...
lol, my whole life is a food phase ;). i've gone through soo many!
- apples.
- different brands of bread.
- luna bars.
- trail mix.
- oatmeal.
- egg whites (currently).
- probably more.
yeah i do that all the time. I'm in the egg white phase going into carrots.
yes, you basically just described my life
i went through an oatmeal phase too
and a broccoli phase
and egg whites phase
and oranges
and soup
and cereal
and bread
right now i was addicted to whole grain, low-cal muffins
Totally, recent phases have included
- Jelly tots
- Apples
- Marshmallow wafers
- Fruit and fibre cereal (dry)
- Muller light yoghurt
- Tuna salads
- Toast with low fat cream cheese and marmite
- Milkyway bars (UK)
Wow, its so great to know that I am not a total nutcase! Since I'm scavenging for bananas, etc. rather than cookies, I'm not really too worried how this will affect my weight (I'm trying to slooowly lose a few pounds), but more concerned that I'm neglecting important food groups. (Banana_anna, thanks for letting me know that all these bananas are okay!) Maybe the real problem is that I still have about 20 yogurts in the fridge from my yogurt & granola/cereal obsession... So, is there a way to snap yourself out of these phases?
Yes i went through a red skinned baked potato phase recently LOL... i found out that my microwave has a sensor cook option for baked potatoes that makes it super easy to cook... so ive been going nuts lol
Absolutely, I've been having food phases since childhood! Mine last a lot longer than a few weeks though, aften years!
My current obsessions include porridge, broccoli (especially cooked in the microwave until slightly charred), Solero ice lollies, vanilla yogurt, carrot & corriander soup, and raw green beans.
Past phases have included dry bran flakes, the sweet Ryvita with the currants in (had to kick that one as I was having severe digestive problems as I was eating so many!), Galaxy Minstrels...I could go on and on.
When I like something I can eat it a million times and never get bored.
yupp im guilty as charged. some on my list are
sweet potatoes, red grapes, apples, peaches, soup, granola cereal, cottage cheese
My phases have included:
- apples
- carrots
- grapefruit
- sweet potato
- cheese
- and now GreenMax cereal powder
I think I may been on a coconut kick. Coconut juice straight from the coconut, then cutting it up open and eating the white meaty part is just so good. I love living in a tropical country, they sell these on the street everyday!
I've had this expericence as well, for three months it was hard-boiled eggs and apples, then carrots, then cucumber salad. Now it is a combination of all those with oatmeal which is perhaps a bit healthier. Is there anyone here with a nutrition background who might be able to shed some light on possible causes of this habit and whether or not it is heathly?
I went through an unhealthy binging phase on..healthy food. Like whole grain cereals, nuts, apples (fruit of all kinds, really). I second the oatmeal thing. I used to eat oatmeal like every morning for a week or so. I also had a beans phase. I avoided meat at all costs, even though it was not for a vegetarian or vegan purpose.. I just kind of hated meat and replaced it with beans. Lots of beans.
I was in the scrambled egg phase...I'm now in the mushroom phase...I see the chocolate chip cookie phase in my near future.
Here's a little update on my oatmeal obsession...Yesterday I bought my second canister in one week! In my defense, I definitely didn't get 13 servings from it like the label claimed... Which means I really need to invest in that food scale.
Still, my boyfriend is joking about getting me a feed bag!
I guess its impossible that my body really needs all these grains, maybe its just a psychological "addiction."
