Food Phobias?
- I'm literally scared of mayonnaise. If it touches me I'll scrub the skin raw washing it off. Same goes with mustard.
- I can't eat ketchup unless it comes out of a packet and is room temperature
- If I'm handling/cooking with sour cream (won't eat it by itself for MONEY) I won't breathe the whole time until it's incorporated into the recipe that I'm making
- Salad dressing--can't do it. Even if I make a vinigrette myself and know that I like the ingredients and know exactly what's in it, once it's incorporated into a dressing it somehow becomes repulsive
- If I have to touch/handle a bottle or jar of a condiment or dressing I have to put plastic bags over my hands so I don't come in contact with the jar
Reason: Released as sticky
Jello of any kind.
Pudding with the skin on top.
Canned tuna.
These are the most disgustingly foul "foods" ever created. I can't even watch people eat them without getting nauseous.
Well, I eat vegan, so since making the change, I am really scared of eating meat, dairy, and eggs. Or having it contaminate my food in any way even if I'm not eating it directly.
I will NOT TOUCH SUGAR or let it get close to me at ALL! I will do what Rachelcrow does and scrub myself & my foods if it is touched -
Jello creeps & grosses me out because I had a BAD experience with Jello-Shots back in the day
Pork of any kind does not get NEAR ME!!
Flour is creepy to me too and I will pretty much do what I do with sugar if it gets near me
I do not use salad dressings from the bottles that are processed - yuck - why would I want SUGAR on my salad greens!
Oh and that solidified turkey fat kinda grosses me out too - but if I warm it up, it does not bother me anymore because its gravy now!!
SHITAKE Mushrooms - AHHH!
Cottage Cheese reminds me of... ok I will NOT go there!
BUTTER - AHHHH! No Get AWAY FROM ME!
CREAM & AN DAIRY PRODUCT DOES NOT FLY in my book!
sugar(general consumption, plus excess gives me sugar headaches.)
bananas and eggs-actually phobic, I won't touch bananas with my bare hands and I hate the smell of both. I get uncomfortable sitting next to people eating either.
dairy. i don't get preachy but i think cow milk is for cows.
mayonnaise, all fast food, buttery sugary baked goods( i would wash my hands if I handled pound cake), peanut butter(smell and taste gross me out), chocolate(same), honey/syrup especially commercial maple syrup, peas, broccoli, cauliflower gross me out, anything bubbling in grease . . .
and bloody huge hunks of steak and hamburger meat
This is sort of a food phobia...
...I always get nervous when ordering a fountain drink because I always get diet, and I'm afraid that the waiter/waitress will just be lazy - or that there was a mix up when they filled up the syrup thingys - and give me normal pop.
I always have my friends taste it for a second opinion...
Dairy products that have been opened for more than a day. I'm so obsessed with not eating spoiled food and for some reason I can't seem to convince myself that milk/yogourt/cheese doesn't go bad after a day.
Mayonaise...just thinking about it makes me feel ill!
Salad dressing, any kind - vile
Butter. In fact anything you can taste the fat in
Butternut squah/sweet potato - the texture/taste blegh
Bananas - I can't even remember why now but I will not eat one for love nor money
Salsa or sweet chili
Any combination of sweet and savoury foods
Meat. It repulses me, sometimes the sight or it or smell will make me ill. A few weeks ago, touched raw chicken when cooking for my brother and sister, and I started hyperventilating and had to wash my hand over and over again - for me, touching dead animals is like touching dead people
Like oxymoron00, I also get worried if I order diet coke, they give me normal one, so unless I see them pur the drink in front of me, I get a friend to taste it. Ditto with coffee
anything that is deep fried
refined grains
cane sugar and corn syrup (i eat few things that contain these two still.)
tortilla chips (unless they are whole grain and baked.)
obviously milk, cheese, beef, poultry and pork
watermelon ( i can't eat it. i thinks it's so gross. both the texture and taste.)
that's all i can think of right now.
Oh and that solidified turkey fat kinda grosses me out too - but if I warm it up, it does not bother me anymore because its gravy now!!
^This made my night! I can picture myself saying that..."But it's gravy now!"
Back in the day during the hardest time with my ED I was afraid of pretty much everything. I knew all the diet tips and tricks and any food labeled "bad" you would see me a mile away from it all.
I'm A LOT better now and pretty much will eat anything. If I WANT to. I still have trouble buying full fat versions of foods though. You usually see me buying "Fat Free" or "Sugar Free" in my foods. I rarely eat red meat, once in a I will. I do not tend to eat anything fried even if it was in Olive Oil. I use to not eat any white bread products, but don't mind it now if it's in the "light" variety. I would never touch sweets, but now I do. I do not touch anything with regular butter or maragine. I use the spray butter. I usually only eat light salad dressing, but once in awhile will eat regular if the calories with the salad are already listed. I will not drink soda, diet or not. I pretty much do not drink any drink that isn't diet. I hardly ever touch ketchup, only on occasion, but will eat mustard.
Hmm..That's pretty much all I can think of.
I have to agree with the celery. That, and water chestnuts...creepy!

My sister cannot bear to have something that "can look at her" - if her fish comes with the head as a decoration as it does in some restaurants, or prawns head-on, she cannot eat it. It scares her!
I totally agree. Especially those big prawny things with big staring eyes and antennae. I utterly freak if that gets put in front of me in a restaurant. Yet still I persist in ordering seafood...
Chicken with the bones in...especially wings, thighs, etc. I'm always afraid of biting into it and then seeing horrid blood vessels, gristle, connective tissue, etc. *SHIVER!* If I do eat it, I can only eat the biggest, "safe" chunks off and leave lots behind.
Actually, I'm a little afraid of any meat that hasn't been thoroughly trimmed/processed/prepared so that there's little to no reminder that you're actually eating a creature's muscle tissue. I am completely grossed out watching people tear apart hot wings, BBQ ribs, etc...EW! Ha ha, maybe I should just be a vegetarian.
Gravy is also a big NO. I don't even want it near my plate if it's being served at a table.
Finally, "regular" pop (soda, whatever)...ridiculous, because up until 3 days ago I was basically the biggest sugar fiend ever, devouring candy, cookies, desserts, ice cream, etc like it was my job...but ever since age 15 or so when I started drinking diet, I've had a huge "fat" fear of full-sugar soft drinks.

I'm so totally the opposite!! I like to eat cute little animals! Like whole baby calamari, LOVE IT! Love it for the taste and the cuteness lmao
(after a couple glasses of wine, I'm naming them and popping little Sally, George and Jose into my mouth XD)
I cannot eat lobsters unless it is just the meat. When I went to my club I had to have then break the whole lobster apart.
GREAT JOB ON YOUR HISTORY HOMEWORK.
I draw the line at insects? lol. I'll try anything once, and eat pretty much everything. I don't like boiled onions, like in soup, but it's more of a taste thing then a phobia. I had such a great time in Thailand. I just wondered through the outdoor markets trying different fruits, veggies, and food that was cooked there. The weird looking pastry/dumpling thing that looks like it was made from beans? Sure why not. My travel companions were horrified. lol.

I like calamari also, but I wouldn't exactly call them cute. lol
