Just curious to see if anyone else has any weird food phobias/habits?  Because I SURE do...

  • I'm literally scared of mayonnaise.  If it touches me I'll scrub the skin raw washing it off.  Same goes with mustard.
  • I can't eat ketchup unless it comes out of a packet and is room temperature
  • If I'm handling/cooking with sour cream (won't eat it by itself for MONEY) I won't breathe the whole time until it's incorporated into the recipe that I'm making
  • Salad dressing--can't do it.  Even if I make a vinigrette myself and know that I like the ingredients and know exactly what's in it, once it's incorporated into a dressing it somehow becomes repulsive
  • If I have to touch/handle a bottle or jar of a condiment or dressing I have to put plastic bags over my hands so I don't come in contact with the jar

-Shitake mushrooms, uncooked/half cooked egg whites (slimy.)

-sea cucumber (looks like an inflated earthworm? can't do it.)

-oil/butter/things that leave greasines on the lips

-veins/fats/gristle in meats. Even deli hams.. i pick all the bits out. by the time i'm done it's usually all tattered and torn.

-skin. of anything. i don't mind chicken skin if it's crispy...but i tend to stay away from fried stuff nowadays.

-watermelon seeds. They're just wrong! wrong!

I am ridiculously scared of mac and cheese.  Just the smell revolts me.  I've never even tried it before because I've never been able to get past the smell..

mayo...

Also like others have said when they order diet drinks..and thinking it's a regular

The yolk in hard boiled eggs

Eggs.  Whenever I pick up an egg, I think about what's inside it and get the heebie-jeebies, it makes me want to drop it, whine, and flap my hands.  Also, I can't get past the phobia that one day i'll crack one open and find a bird fetus.

BABY CORN- 'nuff said.

Egg yolk! It's so gross! Especially when it is hard boiled! Oh ew! I hate ranch. The smell of it makes me sick. So gross. Cooking oil and crisco. Sick, sick sick. I hate butter the most. Butter freaks me out. Ever seen butter left in a dish on the counter? It gets slimy looking and beads of sweat collect on it and makes me want to vom!

1. I hate eggs, but it's not that I'm afraid of them. I just hate the way they smell and taste. I actually want to like them, and have tried, but I just don't.

2. Mayo- like many others have said it is gross. It's also a fear food. Basically any oil, butter, fat, etc is a fear.

3. Peanut butter! I LOVE it, but am so afraid to buy it because if I do, I'll end up eating half a jar in one sitting.

4. Anything fried- chicken, potatoes, chips, etc

5. Cheese unless it is low fat or fat free- or any full fat dairy product

6. Jello kind of creeps me out. I ate some recently before getting a colonoscopy and it was just gross! Not to mention what it's made of is just weird.

7. Any organ/part of animal that isn't normally eaten- liver, chitlens, tongue, etc

8. Baked goods, but it kind of depends on what it is and what kind of mood I'm in.

9. Regular sodas, tea with sugar, juice, basically drinks with calories

Wow...didn't realize I had so many...

- Mayo. I used to like it, lots, but one day I sniffed it. ...that just completely turned me off. Globby, fatty, gross.

- When fat firms up. Like if you cook some bacon, and the pan just sits there, and then there's all this white greasy crap at the bottom, oh my goodness. I can't touch it, and if I look at it too long I want to throw up.

- Mushrooms. To me (and this probably isn't rational), it's just mold. If you put a mushroom in front of me, I think that you probably scraped it off your moldy shower.

- This really isn't a food, but I freak if my food touches. You know those people who go to buffets and completely PILE crap onto their plates? You will NEVER seem me doing that. My food can't touch at all.

meat and fish just gross me out.  Their disgusting raw.  Cooked...not so bad.  But when it's raw and fatty and gross that's the worst.

Mushrooms are just ew.

Congealed fat is soo nasty.  Once I cooked this (fatty) dish and left the pan out (uncleaned) overnight and their was about  a 2 inch layer of congealed jello-y fat.

This isn't  a food phobia, but in middle school one of my teachers was terrified of cotton balls...

I'm scared to death of carrots and mayonaise.  Also, shellfish with the shells on them.. eek!

~Mayonnaise. I've always hated it and just the appearance of it freaks me out.

~Anything with a face or bones. I've worked myself up to eating fish fillets or canned tuna but still can't bring myself to eat chicken or red meat. Not a big loss as I never was a fan.

~Cereals already mixed with nuts/dried fruit. It always bugs me out how by the time you get to the bottom of the bag - all that's left practically is just the nuts/fruit.

~Store-bought drinks. I do drink them now but in the back of my mind at Starbucks, I'm always wondering if they've put too much of this or that in there.

~Potatoes, white bread, etc. 'nuff said.

I am deathly afraid of having food allergies so I have never even tried sea food in my life. I'm not allergic to any foods that I know of so it is completely irrational but I can't help it. I won't kiss someone that has eaten sea food in the past three hours and if someone is eating it next to me I silently panic about juices squirting in my food.

Never tried them, never will.

  • Escargots/Snails
  • Pig Tongue
Tried them, never again
  • Egg Yolk (I hate the way it ''stick'' to your tongue)
  • Apples with PB (I love apples, I love PB, but how can you eat TOGETHER??)
  • Soft White bread (Don't get me wrong, I like French baguette and stuff like that, it's just the way the sliced, ultra-soft white bread for sandwiches stick to your teeth)

I think that Sprial Mac n Cheese taste better than regular

(I am actually afraid and gag at the thought of "Shells n cheese" or "White Chedder Mac N Cheese")

I've got tons of wierd gnoshing habits... no real phobias.

When eating a taco, I'll pick out all of the vegetables first and then eat those by themselves... and afterwards I'll eat the meat-filled taco.

When eating eggo waffles, I like to fill each and every hole/square-pocket with syrup before eating it... I then proceed to eat the waffle by cutting off individual rows of squares around the waffles parameter (making the waffle square) and then eating the rows one-by-one. I like to core my cucumbers and eat the seed part first, then I'll eat the rest.

When eating nilla cakesters I eat only the cake and throw out the icing

I eat my Pillsbury pizza pockets open-faced (kinda like a real pizza)

I pick out and eat all the "stuck-together" cheerios first before eating the "normal" ones.

I like to eat my bubble-gum ice cream with a small cup on the side, to reserve my gum until after all of the ice cream is finished

Another habit that will never die... I eat hot sauce on everything. Yup, I'm pretty strange :P

Any food that is not MONTHS away from it's sell by/use by date. I've gotten better though.

Any sort of beverage with calories(working on this too)

Jellied cranberries! When I was little I ate them on thanksgiving and had a very traumatic experience with the stomach flu that night. I puked up pink for hours D:

A lot of these posts seem ED related.

I've recovered from five years of anorexia and bulimia and while there are foods I don't like (high-fructose corn syrup, artificial sweetners, trans fats, smoked salmon and tinned tuna, hard-boiled egg yolks, most processed junk) there are none I'm actually afraid of.

I buy full-fat dairy because fats are healthy and the products taste better; I like plain yoghurt for the tartness and because it's not artificially sweetened. I like butter and it's so good for you - contains those healthy fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K and helps you to absorb calcium. I'm also over my carb phobe. Pasta is a great healthy carb source and so are potatoes (though imo, sweet potatoes are tastier).

For those who posted whose phobias are ED related I suggest looking at the benefits of those foods, rather than what you perceive to be disadvantages.

I'm afraid of mayo and ranch dressing in that it makes me want to yack looking and smelling it. Plus I hate having it on my hands for fear of having to smell or taste it ;P but that's it.
