&nb sp; I dont have a food scale. I am looking for recipes so i can go shopping and plan actual cooked meals. Instead o eating from a box that says lean cuisine or go lean or healthy choice. The problem being without a food scale I cant measure out the recipes on this site into single servings. Anyone know how to circumvent this food scale thing?
mesuring cups and being consistant in the way you measure will work. but only roughly. check out the unit converter in foods to see what help it can be. If you really plan to cook, really want to be accurate and know you will be cutting out the expensive packaged foods-the savings from not buying the packaged meals should surely pay for a scale. Google and check out the prices, you may find scales may not be as expensive as you think. Once you know the prices you can decide if cheap is good enough or if you wish to spend more on better quality scale. If you are "dieting" because of a medical condition (like diabetes) it might be worth while to buy a good scale right from the start.
I found a really cheap one on ebay. I think I paid 5 bucks for it including shipping...
I agree with nsgardener; the scales are well worth the investment. I am a diabetic and I have found the scale well worth while. You can of course spend about as much as you want on a scale...from 5 bucks to well over 100! However...for normal home use in individual meal prep, most lower end scales work just fine. The one I bought was only 29.99, is oz. or grams, is digital (back lit), has a tare function and a nice large removable bowl. I have used mine faithfully since March and have lost 70lb to date and have been able to stop all the oral diabetic drugs! I can't say enough about the value of the investment because usually what you THINK is a portion is twice as much as you should be eating!
Continued success in your endeavor!
