food vices that challenge "nothing TASTES as good as THIN/HEALTHY feels"
so, what are your food weaknesses that really make you wonder if it's all worth it...just for fun, obviously we are all committed to our goals but which foods are the hardest to give up? well, the originals at least, i've made substitutions for all of these and still eat them but in terms of "regular" foods...`
sweet cold: definitely ice cream, OR frappuccinos
sweet hot: definitely fatty chocolate milk
sweet pastry: apple pie or cheesecake
sweet breakfast: muffins
lunch: fast food burritos...bean and cheese with chips and salsa
dinner: fettucine alfredo with broccoli and shrimp, bread
snack: hot cheetoes with nacho cheese
these things are terrible for you, and i guess i wouldn't eat them regardless of what they would do to my wasteline because they are unhealthy plain and simple. i have some of them occasionally, or a healthier version [like ice cream] regularly, but the originals i try to keep to a minimum :)
what are yours??
Reason: Released as Food Forum Sticky
Tirimusu Cheesecake...this crap should be illegal!
all sweet stuff is the bane of my existence! I start eating it and it triggers this "eat quickly so you don't have to stop" mentality *sighhh* so I just keep dark chocolate in the house for emergencies.
Luckily I don't crave bad/fatty salty foods or creamy foods much- it just doesn't agree with me anymore.
sweet cold: any rich chocolate flavored ice cream with chocolate fudge, rice pudding, frozen yogurt
sweet hot: hmm hot brownies, lava cakes, rich chocolate cake slightly warmed in the microwave, halwah
sweet pastry: indian sweets, apple pies, pecan pies, baklavah
sweet breakfast: pancakes, muffins, chocolate croissants, banana bread, coffee cakes
lunch/dinner: i do crave an occasional pizza slice, cheesy lasagne, potato latkes or fries
snack: chips, peanuts

these are the posts that i specifically wanted to avoid...i eat what i want as well...that wasn't the purpose of this thread...if you don't have an answer to the post don't answer, it is belittling when people respond in this way. perhaps i'm overly sensitive but i just hate it when people say, "well that doesn't apply to me" as if their way of life and going about things is better. i'm not saying that this was your intention, but i too have my treats. the question is more hypothetical...which foods are THAT GOOD...that you "shouldn't have" and make you weak so to speak. i just had a blueberry muffin as i type this, so that isn't really my point. everything in moderation right?? well, i'm sure you wouldn't have had that biscuit along with a crap ton of equally bad things...so the biscuit is probably one of "those foods". do you get what i'm saying??sorry if this seems mean, not intentional, just want to express my feelings because i often feel that people like to be combative for the sake of it, not really to be productive to other members of the CC community. this is a fun post, so only respond with ACTUAL FOODS PLEASE...and maybe comments that align with the thread topic. thanks :)
Fantasizing about foods one used to eat is not a good game to play. It's not productive to ask food addicts to think of the foods that caused them problems. I would steer clear of anyone IRL who wanted me to remember, just for fun, the joy overeating. One bite of a food that sets off, or could have set off, a craving is one bite too many. One bite of any food that sets off a craving is overeating that particular food in case anyone wants to question what overeating is.
Yes, we have to live with food all around us and in the media. We don't need any additional source(s) encouraging us to conjure up food images in our minds. We don't allow ourselves to fondly recall certain foods. We say to ourselves, "Others can eat that food with no problem. Good for them. My brain and body chemistry are different and I can't eat that food like a normal person. I prefer to think about healthier alternatives. I don't choose to play Russian Roulette with my health."
Imagine a recovering drug addict with a friend who asks him to recall, just for fun, his favorite drug of choice. How about the alkie whose drinking buddies ask which mixed drink she would have just for fun? Whose fun? It's got to be the friend's fun and the buddies' or the orginal poster's fun. I don't choose to risk my health because someone else thinks it would be fun. If a friend asked me to do that I'd say, "It's not healthy for me to think that way. If you care about me you won't ask again." Our friends and family are the strongest saboteurs; we have to mentally prepare ourselves to fend off their attempts to keep us fat.
There is a definte similarity to alcoholism. Many alcoholics tried and failed at drinking in moderation, or from time to time and every once in a while or only on special occasions. Most of them die of alcohol-related medical disorders. The few who realize they must avoid alcohol always, are the ones who die of other conditions. The attitude that we can sometimes eat certain foods is why few overweight people reach and maintain normal weight for a lifetime. We have to acknowledge and accept that we cannot eat certain foods in moderation. There's no shame in that. It's smart; it's self-awareness.
We won't die if we never eat another slice of cheesecake or birthday cake; quite the opposite, in fact. We will live longer.
I am a confessed chocoholic. Anything chocolate, I will eat it. Cake, ice cream, cookies, brownies, fudge, pie and just a straight-up bar of chocolate. You could dip my flip-flops in chocolate and I would take a whack at them. I don’t eat nearly as much chocolate as I could (or want to) but I still have to have some so I’ll sneak in a snack size Milky Way or Snickers now and then. At less than 50 calories each, it’s a not-so-bad quick fix.
I also love fast food. Sonic, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, Burger King. I could eat fast food every night if only the calorie gods allowed it.
Another one of the things I miss is really good BBQ. I am from Dallas, TX and, needless to say, we have some of the best BBQ on the planet here in Texas. Brisket, ribs, sausage. Sooooooo good! But these days I try to limit it to one good meal every 4th of July. I gotta satisfy that craving sometime!
Smarties/skor dairy queen blizzard
Hot Chocolate
Chocolat Chip Cookies & Cheese Cake
Any kind of muffins
MacDonald's Big Mac & fries
Dorito Chips , Nachos, chocolate bars and candies
I thought of another one. I'm going out for a friends birthday tonight and will indulge in one of my vices - those really BAD loaded sushi rolls - my favorite is the "dan roll"
Eel, avocado, and crunchies on the inside, spicy tuna and eel sauce on the outside - probably about 500 calories (that's a conservative guess, it could easily be 700) but mmmmm so delicious!

I can understand what you're saying but i don't agree. i did not ask this question out of maliciousness so if you took it that way i apologize. the thread title CLEARLY says what it is about and FORUMS will inevitably contain personal stories, questions, and advice regarding such matters so if someone is goin to spiral into a binge because they willingly chose to look at a thread that is about food vices then it's their own fault, just as a drug addict who has recovered is willingly choosing to go into a dark alleyway that has DRUG VENDORS written all over it, whose fault would it be? the drug vendors or the recovered addict who went down the dark alleyway knowing that the vendors were there.
i think part of beating the addiction to food is being able to talk about it, confront it, express the weakness and beat it. pretending it doesn't exist is definitely not the way to go.
i didn't post this to fight anyone or to trigger anyone, i think it's a fun and light hearted post, not one intended to diminish the willpower of fellow CCers so I sincerely apologize. If anyone feels that this post was ill-hearted my apologies!!
1) Nacho Cheese Doritos with Ranch Dressing made from the packet (plus it's high in sodium, kids!)
2) Warm brownies with ice cream (nasty!)
3) Flamin' Hot Lays (1 bag/sitting = mepig)
So deliciously evil!

I'm laughing to myself because I edited my original reply down to half what I wrote. I wrote about how people will sabotage you and then apologize and say they hadn't meant to tempt you to eat. They also blame you after you've fallen prey to their bait (if you eat after reading all the lists of foods we all wish we were eating right now it's your fault). People put stuff in front of you and when you eat it, they tell you they knew you couldn't do it. And when you tell them you wouldn't have eaten it if they hadn't brought it in the house they say, "No one told you to eat it." Both parties are culpable but one has fallen victim to the other.
You make a point about being in places that provide the very substances one is trying to avoid. CC shouldn't be one of those places. IMO posts fantasizing about what we'd eat if we could don't belong at CC. Ever watch Survivor? They vote off the guy who keeps talking about food! LOL! We can have fun at CC without making food thoughts part of it. That's been the problem all along; the thought that food is fun. Theme parks are fun. Food is nourishment. Food can be tasty, but fun....? We're supposed to be talking about how to lose weight, not about all those mmm, mmm, good foods that made us fat in the first place.
I never said anything about pretending food doesn't exist. You're not inviting us to confront the thoughts and habits that compelled us to eat certain foods or alternative ways of thinking to avoid those foods. You even set the bar by making a list of the foods you wish you could now be eating. Others have followed your example. Making a list of foods you know are problematic but wish you could eat is obsessing on those foods. Obsessing leads to doing. I've never known or seen a weight expert encourage people trying to lose weight to have fun by reminiscing about the foods that made them fat. They encourage them to think differently about those kinds of foods. You are what you eat, you eat what you think.
Saying, " I like corn flakes for breakfast with bananas but I found myself eating the whole bunch in two days or having three bowls of cereal so I can eat more bananas; I have decided I need to have strawberries on my cereal instead" is talking about a food one used to overeat, but includes a satisfactory alternative to eating it.
For fun, how about discussing clever ways to turn our minds from food thoughts or food offers? For instance, I like the golden oldie, "No, thanks; I'm allergic to pizza. I break out in fat." ;-)

well this can be the topic of your thread, please try not to be so negative and confrontational, you are the only one that is having a problem with the post and i have apologized so if your intention is to create a battlefield then i am done with the conversation.
i have not said once that i CANT HAVE THESE FOODS NOW, i even said that i've developed alternatives for many of them. so, the post isn't all about what we can't eat. sorry if you took it that way, besides even if it were i think that reality, not reality tv, presents us with real opportunities to EAT the foods so if we cant even talk about them then i am assuming we'd fail at controlling ourselves when actually presented with them.
Don't worry about your post. There is nothing wrong with trying to have a little fun with a discussion! If someone doesn't agree with the topic they should just move on instead trying to "educate" everyone. It just comes off as preaching, even if that's not what they are going for. My personal rule is to only offer advice if it's asked for, otherwise it's not my place.
I really don't see what is wrong with trying to balance a love of food with weight loss. If you think about it, one of the most successful weight loss programs around right now preaches this same concept. Ever heard of Weight Watchers? Their motto is basically "Everything in moderation". It's not for everybody but it has a much higher success rate than any of the other "programs" currently out there.
I, personally, love warm brownies so, so, so much. Bonus points for including ice cream and hot fudge. I Haven't eaten one in a while because I'm supposed to avoid dairy and gluten as much as possible. I might have one the next time I'm jonesing for a treat. The dairy and gluten aren't totally off limits, I'm just supposed to eat the stuff in moderation.
Also, Pizza Hut. I loooove that greasy crust! Haha.

i completely agree and thank you for your post!! i think food is FUN and it isn't wrong to enjoy it. why else would people become chefs, build gingerbread houses, decorate cakes like celebrity faces? because it's fun and can be enjoyable if we control it and not let it control us!!
everything in moderation is the key!! nothing is off limits for me anymore and it's absolutely liberating!!

Why are you breaking your personal rule and giving the op advice, then? lol. jk. Advise away. And why is my "preaching" bad but WW's preaching good? I take weight loss seriously and I'm having a hard time turning a blind eye to such blatant advice as to remembering foods that make us fat with fondness. There are people out there who will suffer needlessly because they are buying into the nonsensical idea that it's fun to torment themselves with thoughts of foods that touch off food cravings.
Lots of people know what I'm talking about. Some people can believe food is fun, or love, but they never develop weight or health problems. We just don't happen to be those people. If we were there would be no reason for CC to exist or for us to become members. If just telling people to eat anything you want just do it in moderation worked for all people no one would be fat. Thin people have been advising us fatties to just put the fork down or just eat in moderation for eons. If just wanting to eat normal portions of food worked there'd be no programs like WW. By the way, what happened to it's founder, Jean Neiditch? I can't find her on Google. You'd think someone who founded one of the world's prevalent weight watching organizations would be all over Google. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she's hiding out because she got fat again. Actually, I think she died. How about Jenny Craig? She used to do commercials but she disappeared, too. I heard the founder of another weight loss group got fat again. Those groups don't work; it's the individual making up their own minds to leave certain foods alone forever who get and stay thin.
I'm not here to agree with everyone nor am I here to have anyone agree with me. I'm just here to share my pov. You don't have to like what I say. I don't mind. Different povs are important. It gives people lots of stuff to look at though I'm not trying to be looked at or popular. Just trying to be real.
