Foods that cause gassy allergic reactions??
For the past year or so I've been getting really bad air inside my intestines (gas I think) but it doesn't smell, and as embarrassing as this is, the only problem I have is it's painful/shifts around and makes me have loud "machine gun" poops or it sounds like opening a pop can on the toilet and horribly, HORRIBLY embarrassing!!! Not smelly though... It stopped for a while, but I think that's because I wasn't eating enough food at all. I thought it may have been caused by an allergic reaction to raisin bran...but I haven't ate that since I began suspecting it...and it worked for a little while. My latest theory is that it's cereal or raisins...I'm eliminating raisins from my diet for the next week, then I'll try cereal, then both. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Perhaps the way I chew/swallow my food? Or some other food? I don't want to take pills or medication, I want to find the source :(

Hmm, are you eating a lot of products high in fiber? Mainly products like fiber one or kashi, they have a fake fiber in them. This fiber is known as Polydextrose. It is an added fiber that compaines can put in our food to make it have fiber that didn't previously have it before.
If thats not it maybe you are eating to fast? Sometimes that can cause bloating and weird gas effects, espically if you don't check your vegetables all the way! (:
I am not expert but maybe some of these could be your problem? ![]()
It's good to go on a trail & error diet... that's the only way you will be able to figure this all out! But here is a list of high gas forming foods:
- Garlic, Cabbage, Broccoli, Milk Products, Fruit, Cauliflower, Beans, Onions, Leeks, Chives, Fried Dough (donuts, buns, etc), Excess Amount of Wheat, Chewing Gum (sorbitol), Raw Vegetables, Brussels Sprouts, Sodas, Eggs, Raisins & Other Dried Fruit & Artificial Sweeteners
Could be a gluten issue. If it still happens after you stop eating the cereal then check with you Dr.
The trial-and-error method is the best way to go. May I suggest you try cutting out milk next? I've heard that around 10% of the population has problems with digesting lactose-rich cow's milk. I'm lactose intolerant, as is my mother, brother and both my kids. In all of our cases, it didn't show up as a problem until mid to late teenage years.
If it turns out that IS the problem, you can substitute soy milk, get some milk digestive pills (usually pretty cheap if you get a store brand), or just limit dairy. You may also find yogurt and cheese are less likely to produce gas.
I guess I'll start by making sure I chew all my food properly.
Then eliminate raisins/dried fruit.
Then cereal.
Then dairy.
After all that, I'll post back. Thanks for the help!
