Tonylayne - Marmite is a spreadable yeast extract!! Very, very British :-D

It's very salty and savoury tasting so a reccommended serving is about 4grams on two pieces of bread!! Lol - some people have much less, others much more...

If you can get it where you are (online maybe) then the best way to have it is on very buttery toast. Yum yum yum.

Thank you, I think. ... We've a couple of chain stores, like World Market, that often have foods you can't find in regular supermarkets. One time, my mother found digestive biscuits (can't remember the brand), which to the American ear doesn't sound very appetizing. (You folks have some rather ... um, unpleasant-sounding ... dishes. Blood pudding? Mashed swede? Poor Jens-Erik! And my all-time favorite, spotted Dick, which sounds like a problem best not mentioned in polite company.) Anyway, we tried them ... an interesting blend between a cracker and a cookie! So ... spreadable yeast extract? Okay, I'll look for it. After all, I like lemon curry!
