Which foods have empty calories?
Asked by hmiyasaki on Apr 10, 2008 in Nutrition

I want to prepare my food for the day, but I don't want to consume many empty-calorie foods.  What are some examples of empty calorie foods I can avoid?

Answer

Empty calories are found in foods that are high in calories but low in nutrients.  Those low-nutrient extra calories come from come from sugar, fat and alcohol.  Examples are soft drinks and fruit drinks, candy, cookies, donuts, pastries, margarine, butter, cream, bacon, and all deep-fat fried foods.
