Foods to keep you going

Quote  |  Reply

So far, I've been pretty happy with sort of nibbling on snacks every one or two hours.  But, for at least the next couple of weeks at work, I'm not going to be able to do that.  Now, I eat a light breakfast (because I'm never really hungry in the morning), lunch at around 11:30...  and then the next opportunity to grab a bite is at around 5:30 (at which point I'm usually ravenous) and dinner is at around 7:30.  I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a workable plan... any suggestions?

Around 1600.

I'm really into Greek Yogurt. It has a good chunk of protein for only about 140 calories. You should try eating more during breakfast to keep you going, or maybe keep a LUNA bar on you for in-between lunch and snack/dinner. That's usually what I do because I have weird class schedules at university :)

I think you're best having a bigger breakfast - even if you don't feel that hungry in the mornings. Try Porridge with nuts and dried fruit, or a peanut butter and banana sandwich on ww bread, or 2 eggs on toast and fruit

Between 11:30 & 5:30, is there any way you could keep a few nuts handy to eat a little at a time?  I'm sure it depends on the demands of your job - some situations you just can't be seen eating.  But if you can just pop a few into your mouth, it will provide you with some calories, protein and fat, along with good carbs to keep your energy up and your appetite down.

Or dried fruit (not as noisy), maybe even a mix of the two. But these are pretty high cal..

Any way you could pack a smoothie and drink it during these times, perhaps? I mean, you ought to be allowed to hydrate yourself.. so if you pack it in some opaque container nobody has to know what`s inside, you could just say it`s water or soda if anyone asked.

If there is absolutely no way to do this, your best bet would be lots of complex carbs, protein and fiber both at breakfast and at 11:30.

Good luck!

I work in a lab with dirt samples and/or dangerous chemicals, so eating during work isn't really advisable Tongue out

Eating a bigger breakfast did help - I'm going to see if I can take a lunch break a bit later during the day.  Eggs and oatmeal seem to be pretty popular breakfast foods - what other good (lazy) breakfasts would you suggest?

Hey do you eat a lot of protein at breakfast....1130 seems a bit early for lunch?

My personal favorite breakfast plans:

1.Silouhette yogurt (40cal) + Banana + Flaxseed (for protein)
2. 4 Egg whites (16 cal each) + 1 piece of whole grain toast + cup of blueberries
3. Kashi Go lean Crunch + yogurt and a banana
4. If you are eating oatmeal MAKE SURE it's not instant and it's stone milled....instant is higher in sodium and doesn't have any of the same proteins are nutrients (and it's not quite as lazy)

....bananas are really good to eat at breakfast b/c they are a complex carb that isn't broken down as easily
...i usually eat eggwhites on days when i know i'm going to be eating lunch or snack later b/c they are high in protein
...i love eating yogurt at breakfast b/c you can mix it with fruit and cereal etc.
