would these foods be a good diet and help me loose weight?
Heres my diet but it doesn't seem to be working. Please be honest if this is good or not but not to honest if you know what I mean. :P
Dairy's: Silk Milk, Egg whites, occasional 100 calorie icereams, American Kraft cheese slices.
Breads: oatmeal plain, whole wheat bread, I guess waffles
Fruits: Apples, bananas and grapes
Lots of water
Veggies: Celery, lettuce and large carrots
Things I add to the above foods: Fat free butter, jam, honey (sometimes) fat free mayonnaise, brown sugar.
Other: pringles fat free sour cream and onion.
For sweet things I eat: fat free puddings, Hot coco, and maybe a little bit of candy.
total calories everyday 1000-1200
Lastly I am highly active.
Is there anything I should add in there or take out? Is there anything that can help me with this diet a little better then some of the foods I put in here?
do you have any advice at things I can do that would help a little?
There doesn't seem to be anything particularly wrong with your diet except 1000 to 1200 calories is awfully low your body probably needs more if you cut it to low your body is going to want to hold on to fat. And even if your an active person you may need to be moving more for me i had to keep trying new workouts to get my body burning. It takes time don't give up, try to keep your foods and workouts fun and exciting so you don't get burnt out..
oooooooooh I see what you mean! Yeah mostly I do running and martial arts so Ill try to do something different somtime. Im still very new to dieting and Im very young so what would you say would be a safe but healthy amount of calories I should eat every day?
How old is 'very young'? If you're female, under 18 and very sedentary then 1800 is the minimum you should be taking in. As you're doing running and martial arts that would increase to 2200+. If you're male, then you can add more to that. 'Healthy' means giving your body enough energy and nutrition to grow and develop properly physically and mentally. Starving is unhealthy... no matter what foods you choose.
Your diet seems rather limited and my concern would be that you're not getting enough iron.... There is no mention of meat or fish or (if you're vegetarian) beans, pulses/legumes, tofu. Egg whites are your main source of protein but they contain little else. Whole eggs would be better for you as they contain more iron. Celery, lettuce and carrots are fine but you need to add a much broader range of vegetables especially the dark green types... cabbage, broccoli, spinach... to your choices. Oatmeal and wholemeal bread are good but also think about starchy vegetables (potatoes, yams, squashes, corn), rice, pasta, noodles and other grains as alternatives so that you get different nutrition such as B vitamins. Your diet seems to be quite 'fat free' which is a big mistake if you're very young. Things like olive oils, nuts, seeds and oily fish are important for good mental and heart health, for example.
Aim more to get a well balanced diet and more exercise than counting your calories because that will be better for your health and enable you to control your weight more easily. If you need better information on a healthy diet this link is specifically aimed at teenagers... http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/teens /
The problem that I see with your diet is there are no restrictions on your sugar intake. My doctor told me to limit myself to no sugar other than sugar substitutes, and VERY limited fats(butter, oil, etc.). Also, do not eat after 7 pm. Since I have put these little changes in effect, I have continually lost 2-3 lbs. a week.
hi, rishfrog
Here is some ideas I've seen on other websites myself and they have been working for me now for over a month.
a 1600cal diet will help you to loose stomach fat which is what must guys wants.
My own diet starts with a 300-400cal in the morning 300 and 600 cal in the evening trying not to eat later than 7.00pm every day. So basically when i go to bed I'm getting a hungry feeling and if I can not fall asleep due to the hunger signal then I'd drink a glass of milk.
So with this in mind I'll be loosing 100g a day just for sleeping.
I do the following kind of activities,
at work no lift using stairs crossing over the leg 2-3steps at a time.
Running 10-15km a week, Cycling 200 km depending on the weather
8-10 hours of workout per week,
I've been on this plan now for 10 weeks so far and lost 28-30 pound.

If this is a prescription from a doctor, then okay, but I find it very scary.
Sugar is a natural part of our diet. I would say it virtually impossible to eat healthy with only sugar substitutes. Dairy has natural sugars, and fruits have natural sugars. If you mean ADDED sugars, then I guess that would be okay.
Fats are also a necessary part of our diets. They are essential to living, and restricting them too much can be bad for you. Of course, most Americans eat too much of them, but you need to be careful not to completely cut them out of your diet.
As for eating after 7, meh, that's your choice. It may help to keep you from the "mindless snacking" that people do in the evenings when they are relaxing. But it is not necessary for weight loss. Calories are burned by your body 24 hours a day. Your metabolism does not shut down just because you are going to go to bed in a few hours. And what if this person gets up at noon and stays up till 4 AM every day. Is 7pm still the cut-off?
Eat foods that have 5g or more of Fiber, I notice that when I eat food thats high in Fiber, I stay fuller, and have more energy longer than I do when I eat foods that have more sugar/carbs than protein or fiber. I eat Fiber One Yogurt for breakfast, and it really does keep my sustained for a long time, I eat Tuna, very little red meat, some chicken, but not any chicken that is fried or anything, I make almost everything I eat myself, I bake chicken and marinade it in low calorie/low fat marinades, or I just use a little lemon juice, garlic, and seasonings to give it flavor. I eat a lot of veggies, tomatos, cucumbers, broccli (raw with low fat ranch) cauliflower (the same way) carrot sticks, lettuce, green beans, peas, apples (which have a lot of fiber in the skin) I rarely eat sugar, and if I do then I limit it to one treat, like a ghiradelli chocolate square (yum) Anyway I also take vitamins everyday (One A Day weight smart - advanced) it seems to be helping. Anyway I hope this helps :) and good luck! I know we all need it- lol.
HI Rishfrog,
First of all, instead of thinking about thinking "reduced Calorie" or "reduced fat" items, I invite you to think NUTRIENT RICH.
As for Fruits and Veggies, Bananas and Carrots are very high in sugar, look for the fruit and veggies that give you the biggest bang for your buck. The more color the better.
Also, where are you getting your protein?
Some of the foods you are eating may seem pretty benign, but they are doing nothing to NOURISH your body or spirit.
Find NUTRIENT RICH foods that are delicious and fill you up.
Also, you need to eat more. Especially if you are active. That is a problem that I, as well as many of my clients have, we just keep eating less and less. Aim for 1,500 to 1,600 calories per day.
Keep in mind, NUTRIENT RICH and delicious!
I hope that helps!

As you know, in order to lose weight, you must be at a caloric deficit. However, if the deficit is too great, your body will respond by trying to keep any calories it receives. This is a common problem with dieters where they continue to consume less and the body tries to hang on to whatever it gets. I am a 38 year old, highly active, 38 year old woman. I met with a dietician 2 years ago and was administered a metabolic test in order to determine my ideal caloric intake for losing weight. For me, that is 1200-1300 calories. When I want soemthing sweet, I have it. I just make room for it in my total calories for the day. To maintain my weight, I keep my intake at around 1500 calories per day. I would imagine that 1000-1200 calories is very low for you, but you might consider seeing a dietician for a similar test.
I would recommend much more vegetables (lots of fiber) and lean proteins. The vegetables you are eating do not provide much nutritional value and carrots are high on the glycemic index. Also consider lots of high intensity exercise. I work out 5 times per week doing high intensity interval training (HIIT). Look this up....it really burns off the fat!
Personally, I've been very successful with the above and have maintained my goal weight for about a year now.
Personally, there's just not enough stuff in your diet. O_o Why do you only eat these things? Do you not eat meat? If you are a vegitarian that's one thing, but even then you might want to add some different vegetables.
There is really nothing "off limits" when calorie counting which makes it a much more accessiable diet than whatever you've been doing. You're going to get bored of eating these things over and over again, I'm sure, and eventually want to go crazy on other foods.
The reason I'm saying this is because I know a lot of people that get these essentially "prescribed food" diets where they can't eat certain things seemingly at random (i.e. carrots, bananas, certain cuts of meat, etc.) I think they're total BS. It's easier to just eat within your calories (and others have given you good calorie allotment tips.)
Please just don't limit yourself to these items. There is a wide variety of different foods out there to keep you satisfied. Also, eating a wide variety helps you cut out wasteful calories liek those that you're spending on fat free junk like your Pringles and puddings. (But I don't believe in eating "fat free/negative cal/no sugar added" marketing tactic foods. If I'm going to eat something, I'm just going to eat a smaller portion of the actual thing.)
I agree about the lack of protien. When you lose weight, you need to make sure that your body does not start "eating" your muscles. Muscles are good, and help you look healthy. Having saggy skin over a rack of bones is NOT sexy. Your body needs protien, and if it does not get enough, your smart, wonderful body will start using the protien in your muscles to feed itself. Your brain really needs good fats and protien too... !! Here is the food list from "Body for Life"...
Chicken Breast Baked Potato Broccoli tempeh Turkey Breast Sweet Potato Asparagus seitan Lean ground turkey Yam Lettuce tofu Swordfish Squash Carrots texturized vegetable protein Orange Roughy Pumpkin Cauliflower veggie burgers Haddock Steamed Brown Rice Green Beans
Good Fats
Salmon Steamed Wild Rice Green Peppers avocado Tuna Pasta Mushrooms sunflower seeds Crab Oatmeal Spinach pumpkin seeds Lobster Barley Tomato cold-water fish Shrimp Beans Peas natural peanut butter Top round steak Kidney Beans Brussels Sprouts low-fat cheese Top sirloin steak Corn Artichoke low-fat salad dressing Lean ground beef Strawberries Cabbage low-sodium nuts Buffalo Melon Celery olives and olive oil Lean Ham Apple Zucchini safflower oil Egg whites or substitutes Orange Cucumber canola oil Trout Fat-free yogurt Onion sunflower oil Low-fat Cottage Cheese Whole-wheat bread flax seed oil Wild Game Meat High Fiber CerealFats to Avoid
Rice Cake butter Popcorn fried foods Tortilla mayonnaiseLosing weight is just losing weight if you aren't doing it healthily....if you want to rock....and feel great....this is a better way to go.
Best Choices
There are two types of vegetables: starchy and nonstarchy. Both types are part of a proper diet, but whereas nonstarchy varieties can be eaten in abundance, starchy selections contain more sugar, hence portion size need to be kept in check.
Starchy vegetables include corn, peas, plantains, potatoes, squash, and yams. Nonstarchy vegetables are all of the rest including artichokes, asparagus, beets, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, eggplant, leeks, mushrooms, onions, peppers, salad greens, spinach, tomato, and zucchini.
The best way to get all of the health benefits of these nutrient powerhouses is to eat a variety of colors. Yellow, orange, and red choices provide vitamin A, green provide folate, vitamins, and phytochemicals, which are compounds found only in plants that provide great health benefits, such as reducing the risk for cancer and heart disease. Choose dark green and dark yellow vegetables most often, such as romaine lettuce, broccoli, spinach, peppers, chilies, and carrots. When at the supermarket or produce stand, choose darker veggies over lighter ones. For example, choose romaine lettuce over iceberg, dark leafy greens, and deep yellow and deep red over light yellow and light red. Color can vary vegetable to vegetable, so look around before choosing the piece that you want.
Put some fat in your diet! Get rid of ANY items you buy in the store that are lablel "FAT FREE." Have you ever taken a look at the ingredients in those? Go ahead and use real mayonnaise, just use a very little bit, or cut it out altogether-use mustard instead. Nothing good in mayo. Get rid of the sugar, and there is a lot of sugar in your Fat Free selections. They have to make it taste good somehow. And what the heck is Fat Free Butter? My goodness, do you enjoy what you eat at all?
Where is your protein? And why are you eating Kraft Singles? PLEASE READ the labels!!! You are putting mostly junk into your body. Go ahead and eat a whole egg every now and then.
You can eat all the fat-free things you want, but if you are eating too much of anything, it doesn't do any good. It is the calories that matter, not that they are Fat-free. Check the facts online.
***I would take out the American Slices*** Processed food is GARBAGE!
***Limit your ice creams to once a week and do it in the day not at night.
**Try go lean waffles. Oatmeal should be Old Fashioned or Steel Cut Oats.
**Limit the bananas.....and the grapes. Eat more grapefruits, strawberries, blueberries and pears
** you should drink 1/2 gallon to a gallon a day
** Lettuce? Mixed greens and arugula..
Veggies: Celery, lettuce.....LIMIT THE CARROTS eat more broccoli!!! MORE GREENS
** instead of Mayo, try NAYONNAISE Made of Soy NO FAT! You should start using Coconut oil...GO research it! THE BEST for losing fat! Instead of Honey try Agave!
Other: pringles fat free sour cream and onion. DELETE this CRAP if you want to change your body!!! CRAP in the body makes you look like crap!
** FOr sweets, you should have protein shakes made with water and fruit..
It doesn't matter if you take in 900 calories or 3,000,....In order to lose BODYFAT and change your body, YOU NEED TO EAT CLEAN!
I hope this helps...This is my profession, so email me should you have more questions..... Iluvfitness@gmail.com
That is a great answer, marioswife. Wish I'd thought of some of those things. So true, so true.
Less fat free, processed stuff. As others have said, the Pringles/puddings are probably not the best for you. If you don't want to cut them out completely, at least make them an occasional thing. What Monarch posted sounds great, hopefully that will give you some ideas? I know it did me :) I am taking that list to the grocery store next week!
