Are there any foods that are good for weight loss and good for your skin and hair also?
Especially hair bc ever since I started dieting my hair has gotten alot drier and is a lot less shiny than it used to be.
My skin too. I notice once I get down to a certain weight it starts looking pale.
Thanx. I'm new by the way Hi! ![]()

yep. water.
Are you eating a balanced diet like this Simple Diet Plan?
there are no magic foods that will make you thinner or cure your problems, but here's a list that might open your eyes
List of The World's Healthiest Foods
We all need to stop thinking about "going on a diet" and start thinking about a lifelong commitment to healthy eating and exercise.
water is great and so is healthy fats, like in natural things, olive oil, nuts, avocado. Make sure to get all your daily vitamins and minerals also, in multi vit and fruits, veg, etc.
sorry. i'm being a smartass.
good food is good for your body. if "dieting" has made your skin and hair dry, it's probably because you're not getting enough oils and protein.
depends what you mean by dieting, of course, but if you've gone too far in cutting out fat, that's the problem. i'm a big advocate for eating quality, fresh, whole foods and cutting back quantity--not quality--to lose weight.
All the vitamins and minerals contained within a balanced diet contribute to good health Glossy hair and a good complexion is an outward indicator of internal health. If you're in poor nick, getting a poor or inadequate diet, your skin, hair and nails will show it. (If you've ever kept a dog or cat and their fur starts to look scruffy or lacklustre, it's often a sign of sickness)
I agree with what everyone's saying about fats... Eat nothing but dry, fat-free foods and female bodies really do suffer.
Flax seed!! Toss it in salads or oatmeal. Wonder food for your hair and nails. High in fiber so it will also fill you up!!
up your good fats! nuts, avocados, and healthy oils!!
Hi!! I noticed my hair and skin was becoming dryer, too. I started eating almonds and cashews everyday, like a small handful. It really has helped. Salmon or blueberries are good too. anything with antioxidents.
I agree with everyone who has said you aren't eating enough fats. You need good fats and oils in your {diet} if that's what you want to call it.
Avocado's, Almonds, Flax Seed, Salmon, Blueberries... All these things was said by other posters. You can easily Google, and find a list of healthy foods you should be eating to help with your dry skin, and hair. My hair started to fall out once I started my life style change, and I had learned that I wasn't eating enough protein or fats.
I do have a question.... How many calroies do you eat per-day?
I wish you the best.
^That is a *very* good question.
Avocados are delicious. They've been my favourite breakfast lately. Especially when I have class & need portable food. I pack a breakfast sandwich (fiber eng muffin, 3 scrambled egg whites, tomato & cheese) & 1/2 an avocado, right out of the skin. They're so good, I could take a bath in them. Mmm.
um well to answer your question... honestly anywhere from zero on some days to like probably a couple thousand if I'm having a bad day. I have more fasting days than binging days but I rarely have a normal day, like as in 3 meals a day 1200 calories or whatever the recommended number is... yeah that like never happens. I really tried to eat normally today actually... and I did ok for a while but then I ended up binging. idk its like its all or nothing for me and theres no in between.
I agree with everyone who said avocados... eating them regularly makes my hair really shiny! If you're worried about the calories in a large avocado, get some baby ones. I think they're about 150 each.

I notice an awesome difference in my skin and hair when I make it a point to eat a serving of almonds every day. They're really filling too.

Fasting is probably one of the worst things you can do for yourself. 0 calories for a day? Your body thinks you're starving. If your body thinks that you're starving, then you've got more problems than your skin and hair.
I'm not someone who advocates over eating to lose weight. This site, and several posters here, think I have an eating disorder because I aim for 1200 calories a day. But what I'm getting at is that you need to eat, and eat consistently. Not just for weight loss, but for overall health.
It's no wonder that you binge if you go entire days without consuming any calories. It's important to keep your body on an even keel. Feed yourself. It's not that difficult.

Then your hair and skin are suffering because, basically, you're malnourished. What you describe isn't dieting. Fasting followed by bingeing is one symptom of disordered eating, it's potentially very dangerous and you should talk to someone about it urgently. You need to get a balanced diet and enough food to eat every day... not just when you're having 'a bad day'. Have you spoken to a doctor?

You could use a mayonnaise, olive oil and egg hair mask once a week, also there is a vitamin called biotin that is for hair and nails. Avocado and nuts are also good in moderation. And most definitely eat balanced meals EVERY DAY!
Schweet1, Those are really good suggestions, but clearly this poster needs to eat that mayonnaise and not put it in her hair.
happysingingstar~You said, some days you eat 1000's of calories, and their are days when you eat nothing.. I think if you start eating 1200 calories everyday. Your skin and hair will do so much better. Eating under 1200 calories will do the same thing to your skin, and those binge days aren't good. Do you have some type of ED. Gi Jane has posted some wonderful information. Your health is something you can't take lightly. I would not worry about my hair and skin right now. I would worry about upping my calories, because if you aren't eating the same amount or in the ball park range of calories a day. These tips from all these posters will not help you at all.
I say.. Eat more, and try to get in around 30 to 35 grams of fat in per-day. Then all your hair and skin problems will clear up.
Yes, actually I have. He put me on lexapro for a while and he said I needed to gain weight and eat 3 meals a day, and also I was a vegetarian and he said i needed to eat fish and some kind of meat and he suggested I start taking a multi vitamin and thats about it. O and it is Whitney by the way :) But yeah, other than that, he didn't think it was anything serious.
FISH FISH FISH - FATTY FISH!! woo!! Omega-3 fats = great for your diet & hair & skin!
Other sources of healthy fat: olive oil, flaxseed oil, nuts, avocados, grass-fed animals, egg yolks, hemp seeds & hemp seed oil, rice bran, winter squash (who would have thought?) -- Don't be afraid of fat, it's delicious & good for you (THE GOOD KINDS that is!)

he said I needed to gain weight
So you should be aiming for 2500 cals a day of all kinds of different foods, including a good quantity of fats.... Rather more than the 2000 cal 'bad days' you mentioned earlier. Why then is the title of your post "Are there any foods that are good for weight loss and good for your skin and hair also?!"
Your doctor may not think this is anything serious but if you're underweight, malnourished enough for your skin and hair to suffer, still fasting and still trying to lose weight that's a major problem.
