I had  a problem with this after my surgery in March and the doctor recommended a lot of pure fruit juices, which helped.  She said prune juice was the best, but I just couldn't keep it down, so I went with really good 100% apple and grape juices.

Hi. Apple juice (I use the one with fiber if possible) and grapes are good, but what really helps me the most is when I add bran flakes to my food. I add it to my morning spread, or salsa, or spaghetti sauce, whatever. Meat loaf, whatever you can add it to. Salads ... :-) I even carry a little jar of the bran flakes around with me in case we eat out. I believe that is what helps me lately in particular, and I'm going to keep doing it. Also -- switching from so many meats and cheeses to more veggies (add bran to it) also helps me.

mix AllBran (buds or flakes) into high fibre cereals and salads

Fiber! Aim for your fiber goal. I'm assuming you are a woman since your username includes "pink". SO if so then your goal should be to aim for 25 grams a day. You can get this so easy with fruits, veggies, whole grain/wheat bread, and cereal. I usually get about average 15-25 a day, and sometimes I find myself going twice a day, so I think fiber is definitely your best bet!

Some things that help me:  high-fibre cereals, drinking lots of warm water, pineapple, strawberries, celery, and whole wheat bread.

I stay away from - bananas, peanut butter and cheese.

Kiwifruit....   Two pieces a day.

try a sugar free candy - that will do it!

Coffee!! That seems to really get me going!

Plenty of water and warm teas ect to drink - will ensure that the extra fibre does its job without just filling up your bowels :-O

Also, whilst I agree for the most part that fibre will help in the long term, if you have not already been eating much fibre, then go slow! A sudden increase, sparing the detail, will put you right off.

Branflakes, flaxseed, fibrous veggies ect are all really good, but definately just add a little at a time, and also look out for more soluble (gel forming - not bulky and gut irritating) forms of fibre, which are mainly available in foods like oats. A bowl of porridge or soaked oats each morning will really help to draw water into the tummy and loosen up the erm, motions a bit.

Definately water though. And how about when you rise, before breakfast drink a cup of warm water with half a lemon juiced in it. This is sooo good for you in so many ways, but will mainly improve digestive transit. After you drink it, you could try tummy massages, make clockwise circles with your hands pushing on your tummy whilst lying down.
