Claire, angel food cake IS laxatives. even on the label of that cake, there is a warning that this cake has a laxative effect. I am not sure why?? but I am surprised that it did a great job. I am not saying that everyone should eat angel food cake for constispation. I can't eat it everyday either that is why I asked about alternatves :)))

If you used a cake mix that has manitol in it as a sugar substitute, yes it might, but it's not the angel food cake itself, but just that one ingredient.  That's why I bake from scratch - so I know what goes into it.  Whenever you use a product with a long list of chemical sounding ingredients, you never know how that's going to affect you.

Stop eating the junk and start eating whole foods, prepared from scratch.

One thing that is MAJORLY important to avoid constipation - aside from upping your fiber - is drinking more water.  If you think you're drinking enough now, and still suffer from constipation, then you are not.  This, above everything else, is what made the BIGGEST difference for me.

I agree that you need enough water, but I KNOW I drink enough water (I drink a lot, probably 2-3 times the reccommended amount) and I still suffer from chronic constipation. I also eat the reccommended amount of fiber. I'm guessing my problem is with fat intake. I eat a pretty low fat diet typically. I just wanted to add my 2 cents...

I don't mind any colorTongue out

Oatmeal and coffee in the morning always gets things going.

  • coffee
  • fiber one products
  • apples
  • prunes
  • sugar free products (gum, mints, candies)
  • high-fiber fruits & veggies
It is important to balance the amount of fiber and water...too much fiber can cause deadly amounts of gas.   Also, I find exercise helps me poop.  The other day, mid-run, I started getting the worst stomach cramps....not pretty. Beetroot...huh...rainbow poo Tongue out

kfc cole slaw would do the trick but above 50% of fat calories per serv dare  i eat it? it ranks a b??

taco bell

My mom used to drink prune juice for that issue. If I had a problem, she'd give me canned mandarin orange segments. Coffee seems to work in the mornings for me.

For the "sugar-free candy" suggestions, read the labels. If they contain sugar alcohols, they'll be more likely to cause a laxative effect than sf candy containing aspartame, sucralose, etc.
