Ever since I started paying attention to what I eat I can skip over entire sections of a grocery store. I skip over all snack food isles. I never buy chips, granola bars, cookies, candies, or popcorn. I rarely need anything from the frozen sections (except sometimes I get frozen berries or frozen yogurt). I also never buy butter, margarine, meals in a box (hamburger helper or lean cuisine), soda, juice, desserts preserved in little cartons (yogurt, jello, pudding, canned fruit). I cannot order anything from fast food restaurants either. They specialize in high cal foods...if I were going to choose one of their healthier options I'd rather go to a place that does them really well. (fast food salads just don't hit the spot with me).
Since you've started living a healthier life style what foods do you no longer consider buying at the grocery store or at restaurants?
I no longer scour the dessert & chips aisles looking for an intriguing processed snack to sneak in the cart. In fact, the idea of eating pre-packaged, processed cookies now disgusts me. :K
Desserts, chips, cookies, cakes.
Especially anything made by Entenmmans.
I still buy some of the bad stuff - my boyfriend would rebel!

I did find that I cannot stomach the garbage myself. It just doesn't taste good anymore (and I'm glad!) I really thought I'd never be able to give up the fast food (I was a
real junkie), but I feel so much better, and I've already lost 9 lbs.!
Nothing with trans fats. If it has partially hydrogenated oil in the ingredients, I won't consider buying it.
No frozen dinners or anything loaded with salt and preservatives.
No storebought ice cream--I like ice cream to be a special treat, from a good ice cream shop... not that crap out of the carton.
No desserts from the store bakery, they are all made with hydrogenated oils and many of them don't have nutrition facts.
No packaged meat or lunch meat, the stuff is loaded with sodium and has sodium nitrates, which I learned in school is highly linked to cancer.
Pretty much nothing ready-made or processed, with some ridiculously long list of ingredients. I figure if it's worth it to me to have it, I can make it myself.
Sometimes i will wonder down the ice cream aisle and look at all the flavors. Then i look at other people in that aisle. Sad but true, most of those people are overweight and don't need to be putting that half gallon of bluebell chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in their cart. Then i think of how much i have accomplished by avoiding those products and i merrily walk away. I don't put anything in my basket that has HFCS or hydrogenated oils. Fruits, fresh and frozen veggies, cottage cheese, vitamuffins, and gum are my staples right now.
I only shop at Wild Oats for the most part, so NOTHING that I buy has added or artifical ingredients; it's all organic. If I'm at Kroger or Target though, I WILL NOT buy anything will hydrogenated oils, trans fat, or barley any saturated fats. I also do not eat processed cheese, lunch meat, hot dogs, beef, frozen meals (only from Wild Oats), un-organic breads, juices, pork, or milk.
omg definetely all Little Debbie snacks,.probably worst foods ever. but i couldnt believe i saw a tiny little appe pie at the grocery store about the size of 1/2 a hot pocket,.and it was like 500 cals, 25g fat, 25g sugar i was like woww the "tasty, unhealthy" foods dont seem as atttractive wen u see their nutrition facts
SNACK FOODS! Chips, cookies, crackers, sweeties and all that junk.
I basically try not to go down the aisles of the grocery store altogether, and focus on what's all around the outside (fresh meat, fruit, veggies, milk, yogurt, etc).. The only time I really go down an aisle is to get coffee, tea, nuts, and water. Of course I also avoid the bakery section though which is often on the outskirts of the store.
good point tini! shop the perimeter of the store- produce, dairy (or dairy substitutes), meat- its all you need man! i also go in the cereal and bread aisles- and can't resist some tasty popcorn. the spice aisle is great too!!!
I don't buy sodas, anything in the snack aisle, cereals, canned soups, and frozen meals anymore.
I completely ignore the soda, cookie and chip isles at the grocery store, it's nice they put them all right next to each other. I don't buy bread, and only occasionally get tortillas or pita. I also don't buy any meat product. I also stopped buying butter, because if I have it I WILL put it on anything I can. I only use about a third of the store really.
Meat, other than chicken breast.
No beef, no pork, no lamb, no nothing.
Bacon. Used to buy it all the time. Now -- never. I don't even miss it, I have my vegan sausage patties. Yum.
- peanut butter
- bread
- meats (I'm a vegetarian)
- dairy (eggs, milk)
And BEFORE I started this binging, I never bought ice cream, cookies, chips, chocolate, pizza, etc. Basically my grocery list was organic cereal, fruits, corn and yogurt (and then I'd steal my sisters food XD).

oh yeah. and ESPECIALLY not the otis spunkmeyer muffins anymore. i used to think the banana nut ones were healthy...but they divide the nutritions by thirds!
"Hey are you hungry?"
"Yeah, i'm starving! Wanna get breakfast?"
"Sure! How bout a third of a muffin?"
"Sounds great!"
:\
Also bugs me that the oreo packs are 25 cents each and the water is a dollar 25...
Interesting, the I have cut out the same snack foods as most of the posts, but also, when we are invited somewhere, I don't bring them for other people to harm themselve with either.

Gosh giasbash9269... I can understand why you wouldn't buy most of those things, but why cut down on so much fruit??
