1. candy- those reeces peanut butter cup mini things!

2. cookie/bar- chocolate chip cookie dough (or freshly baked chocolate chip cookies... I only allow myself to buy cookie dough in nov. and dec. so it always will remind me of the holidays)

3. main dish (turkey, honey ham, tamales, etc)- steak gorgonzola

4. side dish (baked yams, green bean casserole, etc.)- mashed potatoes

5. pie/cake- this isn't really a pie or a cake, but I feel pastries fall into this category well enough, so, chocolate croissants!

I can't afford them now, but when my parents bought me food I loved the seasonal pumpkin flavored food!

My favorite ice cream was always the peppermint candy kind that only comes out at Christmas.

This has been bugging me.  The heck with answering the questions, here are a couple of my once-a-year favorites:

-The berry that is fresh and in season.  Raspberries, blueberries, Marionberries, strawberries.  Currently cranberries.  These take a zap in the microwave to juice up before blending some yogurt and sweetener.

-Hard squash.  Acorn, butternut and especially buttercup.  Lots of ways to eat these - currently I'm roasting them, skinning and chunking, then topping with yogurt, curry and S&P.  Half the fun is finding them on sale.  The challenge is getting the biggest one for a dollar from a farm stand.

list a food in each category that you only have during special occasions. preferably something you like...and will you be eating it this year?

1. candy - Nothing .. :/

2. cookie/bar - A kashi cookie (maybe)

3. main dish (turkey, honey ham, tamales, etc) - Maybe some of moms turkey....maybe

4. side dish (baked yams, green bean casserole, etc.) - Some brown rice

5. pie/cake - A slice of baskin robbins ice cream cake - hadn't eaten it in like a yr but just had some for my sisters b-day... soooo good!

candy = dark chocolates with liquor in them - Christmas

Bars - cherry coconut squares - Christmas

Main dish - Baked ham, scored, with cherries and pineapple - Easter

Side dish - cheesy scalloped potatoes - every holiday

Dessert - sweet potato pie (and I mean sweet!) with maple sugar drizzled over it - Thanksgiving and Easter

Probably - and sadly - I won't eat any of them or a tablespoonful with someone supervising

1. candy: chocolate coins (may eat them this year as I can usually be satisfied with one for some reason!)

2. cookie/bar: More of a bread/cake, but stollen is amazing! (will try to avoid tho, too fattening!)

3. main dish (turkey, honey ham, tamales, etc): Mum's roast turkey with roast potatoes, parsnips, sausage meat, stuffing...*drools* (I usually try to avoid the sausagemeat and potatoes, and eat lots of broccoli and carrots instead)

4. side dish (baked yams, green bean casserole, etc.): Definitely roast parsnips

5. pie/cake: Mince pies! Or Christmas cake, I can never decide (definitely to be avoided tho!)

1. candy: candy canes!

2. cookie/bar: I have no idea.

3. main dish (turkey, honey ham, tamales, etc) turkey

4. side dish (baked yams, green bean casserole, etc.) none that I know of...mashed potatoes?

5. pie/cake: pumpkin pie!

and no, probably not. I can't understand the concept of eating things in moderation very well and I'm trying to work on that. hopefully by December I will. :)

1. candy: Chocolate bilbies

2. cookie/bar: My grandma's cherry shortbread

3. main dish (turkey, honey ham, tamales, etc): My family's traditional Night Before Christmas sushi platter

4. side dish (baked yams, green bean casserole, etc.):Mum's potato salad

5. pie/cake: Christmas pudding

1. candy - This would have to be the Cadbury Egg at Easter. Some people hate them but I have to have AT LEAST one each year!

2. cookie/bar - There's no real set time of the year but at least once a year I will have to buy a bag of Oreos. They are way to dangerous to have around all of the time but now and then, you just have to have some. A stack of Oreos and a tall glass of cold milk. Nothing better!

3. main dish (turkey, honey ham, tamales, etc) - It would have to be roasted turkey at Thanksgiving. I buy sliced turkey from the deli for sandwich meat throughout the year but there's something about a nice, thick cut of turkey with dressing & all the other goodies that makes the turkey taste that much better.

4. side dish (baked yams, green bean casserole, etc.) - Again, back to Thanksgiving for the ever popular green bean casserole. It's just sooooooo good. Creamy & crunchy all at the same time.

5. pie/cake - Back to Thanksgiving for pecan pie. It's a Thanksgiving staple here in the south. Even my wife who is allergic to nuts will get a piece and meticulously pick out every single little piece of nut just so she can get to the middle.

Thanksgivingis coming!!! I can't wait until next week!!!

Double Post - sorry

- PUMPKIN BUTTER. I can eat that stuff like peanut butter, spoon and jar.

And my own cooking! :) I love to bake, but if I eat even a taste of what I'm making it's all over for me, it's GONE! lol

Candy::

Halloween-candy corn, snack size candy bars (snickers, midnight milky ways, kit kat)

Christmas: little santas, peppermint sticks, reeses peanut butter thingies, Oaks caramel candy

Cookie/Bar::

My dad's SO makes these delicious cream cheese sugar cookies. I sometimes help her frost and glitter sugar dozens of batches. I have at least 3 on Christmas Eve. Too good....

Main Dish::

Turkey a la Thanksgiving and Christmas

Side Dish::

Fried Cabbage. It's loads of cabbage cooked for ages in a cast iron skillet, with a bit of brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, and some bacon. It's always the first to be whisked away from the bowl to my family's bellies.

Green Bean Casserole.

Stuffing.

Baked Sweet Potatoes.

Pie/Cake::

Pumpkin Bread. Pumpkin Pie. Birthday Cake. Creme Brulee.

I"ve read a lot of people say that green bean casserole is their favourite.  How is it made??  We Nordeners wouldn't mind a taste!
