Foods you have seriously stocked up on -

Quote  |  Reply

Living alone, some of my stockups may seem crazy quantity (not to me though)  -

MUSHROOMS - Adore them sauted in Pam with onion and then some egg/eggwhite scrambled and mixed in. I eat this daily  and its a favorite but mushrooms are pricey.  After picking up 5 8oz packs, my back up store had the 8oz tubs for 89 cents.  Surprised Despite the home, bought a case - 12 more packs.  Mushrooms for DAYS and thats not a bad thing.

EGGS - they are just to cheap not to make a daily staple and lately a buck a dozen, Ive kept 6-8 dozen in the fridge on rotation. There expiration dates are very forgiving but along with omelets Ive got my eggdrop soup so I run through them.

ONIONS - this may be a problem.  I adore onions and just rediscovered them so Im eating 1+ a day.

CHICKEN BROTH  The sodium isnt an issue because I dont salt any of my food so thinking my salts okay.

CAULIFLOWER - Lately big heads and low prices have me stocking up.  Chopping up a head, spraying with pam and grilling at 450 for 40 minutes is an amazing nibbler food

So what is your stock up food, whether recently and regularly.

Shirataki Noodles. I ordered 70 dollars worth of them when I first discovered them, and they arrived in huuuuuge boxes that didn't fit anywhere except the middle of my living room. Haha.

I also have miles and miles of instant mashed potatoes that I bought right before my Costco membership expired. They are really delicious and cheap, and you can virtually ignore the expiration dates on them.

And I dunno if this counts but at any given time I have about 2 dozen boxes of Pasta-Roni and Rice-a-Roni in my cupboard. Mmmm.

Lettuce: I'm a salad girl. I go through a head of lettucs every 3 or 4 days.

Chip dip: Seems odd, but at 40-65 calories a serving, I find lots of things to dip. Raw veggies in tostitos spinach dip is my nightly snack here lately.

Wasa crackers: I will put anything on a light n' crispy wasa cracker. seriously. I have replaced bread, bagels, and tortillas, with wasa crackers.

Dark Red Kidney Beans: I always have a stash because on days when I haven't been shopping or don't feel like cooking, I can add them to my food and call it a meal (since they're high protein). Salads, soups, pastas, and anything I might normally put meat in.

Cucumbers: For salty, crispy, want to eat while watching tv, this is my go to food. It's a craving killer for me, so I don't dare let myself run out.

Dark Chocolate: Another craving killer. I want half a cake or a DQ blizzard? I eat two squares of dark chocolate.

Muesli: I discovered muesli cereal is god-like so i've stocked up on a banana-nut one.

Bananas: One of nature's perfect foods; comes in a wrapper that can go right into the compost, filled with potassium and great as a pre or post workout snack.

Carrots: I tend to eat these like bugs bunny, or boil them and top them with olive oil, garlic, and rosemary.

Feta Cheese: I'm lactose intolerant but I discovered that if it's made with goat or sheep's milk, I don't get sick from it.

Peaches and Cherries: I don't believe I need to tell you how fantastic both of these fruits are, and they're in season.

Fortified Soy Milk: Calcium, dietary fibre, vitamin b12 and I can pretend I'm having actual milk.  Plus it comes in strawberry, which i'm a sucker for.

Low-Fat Plain Yogurt:  I used to eat flavored yogurt, but in my quest to eat less added sugar, I found a low-fat plain yogurt that uses VERY little added sugar, and the sugar comes from grapes.  In any case, I eat about 100 grams of yogurt at least 2 times a day...and it is even more delicious when I add fruit to it.  YUM!

Zucchini:  I totally love zucchini!  It is delicious with eggs and even my whole wheat pasta!  Also, the lighter green Roman zucchini is in season at the moment!

Eggs: I love eggs.  I usually eat one whole egg with a few eggs whites in an omelet every day!

That's all I can really think of at the moment!

oooh, what brand are these, and where do you buy them?

Unfortunately, I live in Rome, Italy.  The brand itself is Muller, and it is made in Germany.  I'm not sure if you can find it in the US...but someone should copy, it is soooooooo good!

BANANAS, oats and frozen chicken breasts.

i seriously go into a state of panic if we run out of these.

A coulple weeks ago I bought my very first 4 lb. tub of Nancy's nonfat yogurt, and I finished it already!

I buy my eggs in packs of 18, sometimes buy more than one

I have a 5 lb. bag of blackberries in my freezer, so if I run out of fresh fruit I can keep snacking!

kashi go lean crunch.

fiber one honey clusters.

and garlic powder and red pepper because i add it to most every dinner.

Bags of lettuce. I go through it like crazy.

Strawberries, I always have a couple pints in the fridge.

That's pretty much it. I usually don't buy in bulk.

Oatmeal is mine. I don`t buy huge quantities of all my other staples, because there`s never room for my food in the pantry/fridge/freezer. *rolls eyes*

Can`t wait to move out and start properly hoarding. >:) Just wait until I check back to this thread then.

- GROUND GRASS-FED MEAT

- CANNED PUMPKIN, GREEN BEANS & MUSHROOMS

- YAM NOODLES & NORI (50 sheets per pack!)

- TOMATOES

- SALMON & SASHIMI SALMON (& EEL)

- SPINACH (yea, I bought a 4 pound bag! ha ha)

- EGG WHITES

- JARRED GOURMET TUNA (in delicious olive oil)

- HERBAL TEA & FLAVORED COFFEE

- STEVIA

- SPARKLING WATER & ENERGY DRINKS

- ORBIT GUM

- FROZEN VEGETABLES

***I buy all the above even when I already have some! ha ha!

i "stock up" when the following go on sale:

Diet Pepsi 12 packs (yes im addicted)

Orbit gum (yet another addiction)

Kashi Go Lean Cereal

Quaker weight control oatmeal

baby carrots, they take well and i've been working from 6-11 most days so i need food i can take with me.

also, veggie burgers b/c they were on sale.

i always have oatmeal but i don't necessarily stock up since it lasts a while

hummus, i have 2 containers in my fridge right now

hot sauce---yummy!

bread--always have an extra loaf in the freezer

yogurt--i have about 15 in my fridge and it's just me

popcorn--have to have it EVERY DAY!!

fiber one when it's on sale

granola bars--im staring at 5 boxes as we speak

that's about it...not too many things

Tinned tuna - I can't walk past little tins of tuna when they are reduced price at the supermarket.  I have a drawer at work filled with these little tins.  As I only eat two of these each week, I always seem to have a full drawer of tuna.

My colleagues tease me saying I am stockpiling for the great tuna shortage!

Granola and nutrigrain bars and 100 calorie yogurts - perfect for days when i have no time to make breakfast

Ground turkey - i can honestly make so many versetile low calorie dinners with this, when i have no ideas its perfect for burgers or just to saute with veges.

String cheese - 50 calorie snack full of protein, whats not to love?

Cotton candy - when i really crave something sugary all i need is a little bit of this, and because its so fluffy but actually only made with very little sugar the amount i usually have is only about 25 calories

Amy's microwavable rice bowls - I love these!  They are perfect for the days i don't have time to make lunch or dinner and are much healthier then most microwavable food so i dont feel bad eating them.

Low calorie bread and sandwich meat - Turkey sandwiches for 185 calories even with a little light mayo, perfect for lunch with some veges or fruit!

If i run low on any of these its time for a run to the store.  Last time since the cotton candy was on sale i think i bought enough for the whole summer...it was pretty insane.

CAULIFLOWER - Lately big heads and low prices have me stocking up.  Chopping up a head, spraying with pam and grilling at 450 for 40 minutes is an amazing nibbler food

I use olive oil instead of Pam... but this is SO delicious. It's the only way I enjoy cauliflower.

My stock-ups (in no particular order):

Bananas - I don't actually eat many of these, maybe one a week. However, it's the only fruit my 7-year old likes... and the 4-year old and 2-year old like them, too. DH likes them and potassium is supposed to help his hypertension.

Wraps - whole grain, lower calorie types... I especially like President's Choice Blue Menu Whole Grain Tortillas Chipotle and Red Pepper. I fill them with tuna, chicken, bean sprouts, hummus. They're good for lunch and dinner... only 90 calories each.

Oatmeal - Quaker lower sugar instant varieties. I like them better than the weight control types. I have oatmeal almost every morning.

Strawberries - in season here...love 'em!

Tuna pouches - I actually keep one in my purse. However, I prefer it chilled. They don't need to be drained. I eat it with crackers or in a wrap. High in protein, low in calories, etc. Guess I'm preparing for the great tuna shortage too!

Chicken breast - Versatile... if I remember to take it out of the freezer before dinnertime Smile

Oatmeal

Diet Soda

Eggs (at least 3 dozen...i eat a ton of boiled egg whites)

Chicken breasts

healthy life bread

fruit- i buy it in season so its cheaper and tastes better. right now i like nectarines, grapes, and blueberries.

Bagged salad with extra carrots, i eat it at least twice a day.

my absolute favorite though are Vitatops in deep chocolate. there like having a brownie for breakfast but there fortified with so many vitamins and are ridiculously good for you.
