foods for sinus infection

Quote  |  Reply
Hi all -- My husband has developed a terrible cold/sinus infection and I'm trying to figure out what to feed him to help him recover quickly.  I'm planning on lots of spinach and broccoli, which are high in zinc, and seasoning with lots of thyme, which is anti-fungal and mildly anti-viral.  I've heard some rumors that you should avoid dairy because it promotes mucus production.  Does anybody know if this is true?  Or have any other recommendations?  Thanks!

I don't have a food but just got over a sinus infection myself and the Dr. recommend. Neilmed sinus rinse, it is wonderful. I got mine at Walgreens, it really cleans out the nasal passages. I would run out and get it right away.
That's a good idea.  My husband has practiced sinus irrigation for many years as a cleansing technique for yoga.  I just started recently and it did seem to help me get over my own congestion faster.  I think that saline nasal sprays are generally the same thing, just a light mist instead of a full flushing.
homemade chicken soup...and purple grape juice
Fresh ginger tea works great, but some people hate it because it's spicy hot.  I love it myself.

Grate or slice fresh ginger into some water and boil for a few minutes, then strain into a cup and sweeten.  The spicy ginger clears the sinuses and settles the stomach.
Just something to think about - I had a sinus infection for 6 months.  Found out I am allergic to gluten (wheat) and stopped eating gluten, about 8 months ago, and have been very healthy since (not to mention I lost 25 pounds without exercise).  A simple blood test is how I found out.  My reaction to gluten was like someone's reaction to a cat if they are allergic.  I feel better than I ever have.  Average is 1 out of every 133 people have this problem.  The symptoms range from sleeping disorders to horrible cramping.  Just about everything.
Thanks for the tips.  Ginger tea is a great idea, I use that all the time for upset stomach but didn't think of using it to help with a sinus infection.  So far the infection hasn't settled itself in comfortably yet, so I'm still hoping this might turn the tide!
