So what foods smell better than they taste?
So does anyone have certain food items that smell good to them, but they think they taste bad or just don't eat them? I love the smell of popcorn. I hate to eat it. The texture and the way it gets stuck in my throat turns me off of it, but I love that smell when you walk into a movie theater! Also coffee. It smells so good but I don't drink the stuff. This one is is odd. I'm a vegetarian but love the smell of fried chicken. I could never and would never attempt to try some but I think it smells good! I bet it's the breading and the fried greasy smell! Lol What's yours?!?!
Reason: Released as sticky
- sausages. they smell sooo good, but i personally think they look really disgusting, and they're way too salty and give me massive heartburn.
- pancakes. they smell awesome, but they taste really bland unless you load them up with syrup and stuff.
- probably more..
oh me too with coffee. smells good, but not a fan.
same with olives. they look and smell yummy, but taste disgusting (to me).
cake too - smell is good, texture just puts me off. i cant eat any cake besides cheesecake or yogurtcake
everything that you can buy through a little sliding window smells better than it tastes, except for mcdonalds french fries, which taste every bit as good as they smell.
For me it's popcorn. It always smells so freaking good and when I go to eat it, it's just never as yummy as I thought it would be. I gotta agree with you on fried chicken too...I'm not a vegetarian, and for me it never tastes as good as it smells.
Garlic fries!! They always smell SOOOOO good at the ballpark or other venue. But, every time I give in to the smell and get some, they're always just.... ok. Not worth it.
browning beef...smells good, tastes ok but not as good as it smells
Cotton candy being made at the fair!
sauteed vegetables smell soooooo good,...the texture of the skin vs. mushy flesh is repulsive to me.
raisin bread,....love the smell, will not have anything with raisins in it, it's like biting into a bug! LOL
there are many foods like that, I think it's mainly a texture thing,....
Yeah, I would say coffee. I love the smell, actually don't mind the taste, but it does bad things to my insides.
Store-made cookies. Like if you pass a Mrs. Field's or something in the mall, the smell is amazing, but the cookies don't even compare to homemade. Blah.
PIZZA!!!!!!!! no matter where you get it from, it smells AMAZING. but most of the time (at least in my experience) it tastes like crap. even if it's from the same place you always get it from, sometimes they just taste so bad. but they always, always, ALWAYS smell sooooo good.
I disagree with the fried chicken - the smell actually makes me nauseous lol
I totally agree with the popcorn and the coffee.
In addition to those, I want to add: cinnamon rolls! And any kind of cake - I think it smells a lot better than it tastes.
White_sakura I agree with the cake and cinnamon rolls. I don't like cake. It always seems too dry in my opinion. I love the smell of cinnamon rolls bu t I hate super sticky, messy foods of all kinds. I think that is why I LOVE yankee candle's cinnamon roll candle!!! Yummmm!
oh I forgot about cinnamon rolls. There are cinabons in the Dallas Love Field airport....makes the entire southwest terminal smell like cinabon....but they never taste that great....
I drool the entire time I'm in there...
Tempura. Every time it's made in front of me I can't help but have a piece, but it's so darn salty and fatty I forget why I wanted it in the first place.
Bacon.
Don't get me wrong, I loves me some bacon.
But bacon smells so damn good, no food on the planet could live up to the aroma. Bacon tries its best, but it just can't quite get there.
... and fresh brewed coffee. I like coffee, but it hates me with a burning, venomous spite. :(
Fried foods, especially bacon, steak etc,
they always smell SO good to me
but the taste, and how my body reacts, always a dissapointment.
I love you smell of bacon, steak, chicken etc so much I start salivating any time my housemates cook them.
Taste is a completely different matter. Eurgh.
KFC. I haven't eaten it in years, due to some intestinally violent lessons, but whenever I drive by one it smells soooo delicious, their secret blend of herbs and spices = smell of heaven. This smell is the reason it took so long for me to learn that I can't eat there without serious consequences!
And in the same vein, chinese food. Some chinese food is ok but I am talking about the greasy-spoon, mall versions of chinese food. Smells delicious, tastes only ok, and aftermath is brutal.
I have to add that I think bacon and pizza taste just as good as they smell, which is heavenly :)
Yogurt - it looks good, it smells good...I really want to like it....then I taste it and it's just the grossest thing on the planet! Rotting pudding is what it tastes like to me!! UGH!!
coconut flakes
and definitely agree with Bacon
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
