Ever since I started this new lifestyle change, I've discovered that I actually like different foods that I thought I hated when McDonalds and Chick-Fil-A were the major providers of my meals.

A few examples: fresh tomatoes!! (which I avoided the entire 24 years of my existence b/c I thought they were gross!), asparagus, oatmeal, vinegarette dressing, grapefruit, various veggie soups, and cranberry juice.

Oh, and I actually LIKE drinking water! Who'd have thought?!

WHAT ARE YOUR FOODS THAT YOU THOUGHT YOU HATED UNTIL YOU TRIED THEM ON YOUR DIET/LIFESTYLE CHANGE??

Sweet Potatoes!   I always thought of the canned kind with marshmallows on top that we had at Thanksgiving..yuk!  Now I love baked sweet potatoes, baked sweet potato fries, sweet potatoes added to stew, etc...

Olives (preferably kalmata) and pickles. Love 'em now. Not sure it had anything to do with the lifestyle change, but still a change from childhood when I hated them.

And this doesn't fit into the healthy lifestyle at all, but now that I like pickles, I can indulge in fried pickles.

Broccoli & tomatoes.

Spinach, turkey burgers, celery, turkey bacon, yogurt

mustard and radishes..lol

Until I was about 19 I thought I hated avocado. I remember being grossed out by it once as a little girl.

Then I had a bf who made me some home-made guacamole, and I LOVED it. I immediately went head over heels for all avocados (plain, in guac, smeared on bagels, layered on cheese-sandwiches, etc...)

Avocado is now one of my favorite foods of ALL time, and it breaks my heart to think I went 19 years without this food in my life.   :(

I'll never get those 2 decades back  *sniff sniff*  :(

yogurt and applesauce.

Wow, this is going to be a list, all of these foods I absolutely would not eat or had not tried until about 8 months ago:

  • rice
  • oatmeal
  • grits
  • tomatos
  • any veggies on a sandwich
  • salads- any salad, a bowl of lettuce used to be blah
  • new england clam chowder
  • chicken teriakye
  • wheat bread
  • pita bread
  • any bread- other then white...
  • oranges
  • apples
  • almost any fruit other then the berry family
  • tacos
  • sushi

still hate, but have tried

  • pickles
  • crunchy peanut butter
  • olives
  • nuts
  • dried fruit

So funny avacado is one of the things I just haven't tried.  Although I love california rolls never thought that would happen even the ginger.  Roll-ups are the best way to make a delicious low calorie meal basically a salad in a wrap. Butternut squash and eggplant is really good, didn't try these  till a few years ago.  My neighbor just made lentils which I thought I'd never try and they were okay I may try to make them myself.

I'll try anything once, so I don't have any foods that I thought I would hate.

For me...asparagus!  I have spent almost 39 yrs absolutely positive this was one of the grossest vegetables on the planet.  I just discovered about a week ago that I LOVE it!  Roasted for just about 10 minutes at 425...mmmmmm...just had some tonight!  I also have discovered turkey burgers do taste like regular burgers and the spicy black bean veggie burger is actually a tasty item.  Can't say I like a lot of total vegetarian foods - but that is one I like.  My son likes those $1 "riblet" tv dinners that I KNOW is not meat - so I recently tried a veggie riblet out on him (I didn't tell him - of course) - and he LOVED it!  Proof to me that the other one isn't real meat either ~lol~  I didn't have the guts to try it, but I am trying to cut out some of the fat in his diet as well.

Wasa crackers...bread, whatever.  I use to call it cardboard, and I actually love it. haha

LAMB & GOAT! Always considered Lamb to be completely unhealthy & fatty as ever... but I have discovered GRASS-FED LAMB & GOAT and I am in love... plus my body loves these meats too because they are FULL of omega-3 fatty acids and have roughly 100 calories LESS than their GRAIN FED "friends".

I was a really picky eater when I was little. When I arrived at college, my friends somehow encouraged me to try SO many things I wouldn't have touched before. Here's a list of everything that I used to "hate" and that I now LOVE.

- Cottage cheese

- Cream cheese

....actually the only cheeses I used to like were cheddar, mozzarella, gouda and parrano! Now I love them all! ....except bleu!

- Greek food

- Indian food

- Guacamole

- Hummus

Used to cringe and feel like barfing at the faintest hint of garlic and onion. Now I use them in practically everything. Especially garlic, I adore it, sometimes eat some with every meal. (needless to say what comments I`m getting from my best friend when I arrive to school at 8 and give him a smelly kiss, heh Embarassed)

Olives, cooked peppers, plain popcorn, hot spices and mustard - used to hate them, now I love them.

Broccoli

Red peppers

Tea

BROCCOLI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for sure!

I love Hummus! It goes wth just about anything. I dip vegetables in it put it in my salad. Spread it on bread like mayo. YUM YUM YUM!

Beets - My mom always turned her nose up at them so I never really got to try them until last Christmas. MY Grandma insisted I try some of her pickled beets, I took some to be polite... and LOVED them. They just melt in your mouth... And eating the canned ones is so easy.

Cottage Cheese - I've thrown up milk before... it looked identical. Tried it one day to increase my protein intake... and yumyum. Now I let it melt into my oatmeal in the morning or on top of some yeggie chili. (or just plain with pumpkin stirred in. YUM)

Mustard

Raw Red Peppers - the thought grossed me out, now I'll cut 'em up and eat them with a little ground pepper on top.

Tofu - It always gets a bad rep... but I figured if I was a vegetarian I had to at least -try- it. So long as it's not deepfried, I actually quite like it.
