There's salt substitutes! And they taste pretty similar!
You had me at hello.
Where? What name? Tell me!!!
(I actually hate salt, except for on cucumber.... which I tend to go overboard, at least when I allowed myself salt anyways)
Morton Lite Salt is what I use. It has half the sodium of table salt, which is replaced by Potassium Chloride (potassium is what our bodies need to balance sodium). It tastes the same to me.

Anything that is packaged pretty much.
Frozen Lunches, Canned Tuna, Soups, Ramen Noodles, Frozen Breaded Chicken, Quick Rice.
I can totally see that taking quite a few years for us to get used to the low sodium in all of our foods. Remember how hard it was to go from white flour to whole wheat? That took about a decade!
I find the less sodium you consume the more salty everything tastes... So much salt is added to everything!
I agree with the pickles! But, they're a great low-cal snack, so I don't mind!
I normally don't agree with most of the 'experts' which are posted, but this is very good and since I am only allowed one post a day, I have a serious problem with the sky high salt in frozen meals so I don't buy those kinds of meals although I love the taste of the generic brands and I found out the sea salt is just as bad for you, but I might have been mislead. I went to my fave grocery store and they had more low sodium canned veggies and I told the customer service how grateful I am and even the regular versions have less salt, but not for a daily situation for me. Once I had some pig meat and the next morning my nurse checked my blood pressure and although it was very good before it was 140/90 which was still much better than the past, but much higher. I would love to see the stores not add 10-20% add salt and pig meat is the worse offender of them all although they 'naturally' have more salt, but this is because they bath it in salt to make it more moist and yet I avoid pig meat since I take several pills for my blood pressure when I eat salty food and much more when I have pig meat. The low sodium diced tomatoes are hard to get generic since normally they are totally out of them, but this is good in that many people are loving them. Boiled down; the low sodium is popular, but if you have to watch the potassium then its best to have another plan, but I am not smart enough for sharing. I am not going to be reading the Paranoid about salt link since I am already paranoid about salt, so no need to get more upset about this topic.
Hi Lucas, I am not sure what you do know or don't, but they have or at least had lower sodium what I call Chinese noodles, which are very yummy, but check the flavor of them since they vary in salt for the flavors, I think the Chicken is the lowest or close to it, again, check it out. I added the Cajun seasoning without added salt and garlic to it last night, I add some cayenne to my seasoning to make it overcome the black pepper. Lastly, if you wolf down two packages, use one packet of seasonings. Share with us how your doing with the flavor of noodles when you do eat them. I have to limit them since I am diabetic, but lower salt meats and veggies can be added.
You can can your own pickles. I have been on a restricted low sodium diet for years. The substuite for the salt is lemon juice and If it scares you to not have salt(Many long time canners fear bachelism) Add 3/4 of what the recipe asked for. BUT hey I Make my own beans, pickles, salsa for the winter every summer. Everyone around me prefers my stuff now to store bought. We had A community garden this year for the reason of knowing what was really in the food. I can give you the recipes. It is a project but its cheaper in the long run and is fun. Also if you have a Trader Joes the have lots of low sodium options. As well as Ms. Dash. You can find her products in the baking section usually at the bottom and in Mustard, ketchup section On top shelf for marinades
My former roommate made homemade beer, but I have a small apartment and a very low food budget, I consider making a meal mostly by scratch is pushing the envelope. I have never been to Trader Joe and I am sure they are organic except if they have good things and worth the price. I use the Salt Free Ball's Cajun Seasoning and add Cayenne to it. I use the Horse Radish mustard which is HOT, but not overly salty. I get the 1g of sugar Tomato Ketchup which has more salt than I like, but the sugar is my focus.
Thank-you for responding to me.

Trader Joes and Whole Foods both sell a great NSA Tuna. It takes a couple of cans to get used to, but now I could never go back to regular salty tuna.
I can't stand high salt in Tuna, but I don't think I could handle the no salt tuna, I was told seafood has salt without being added, but I am not sure, but I know Tuna is often very high in salt, but if you use the no salt tuna, its great for cooking and especially the high fiber version of Tuna Helper since the powder has a lot of salt so it would reduce the amount of total sodium per 'serving'. What is NSA? I have no problem with Whole foods, except there prices and I am not sold out to Organic, but there desire to make healthier foods means a lot to me although I am on food stamps and don't live near the Whole Foods, but Trader Joes sounds like a place to buy the military uniforms at, I can't think of the name, but they have the Kakia stuff, I don't know how to spell it.

Yes, a lot of "foods" have naturally occurring sodium (tuna, egg whites, tomatoes, celery...) but you don't get the harsh effects like you do from added sodium by just eating these items plain.
NSA= no salt added
Trader Joes is a grocery store, not nation wide obviously. BTW, we call whole foods Whole Paycheck...

Ohhhh, the Salmon! I love the salmon! In fact, I just might have it for lunch :)
EVERYTHING!!! I cannot stand how much salt is added into everything, dang good thing I like cooking all my own meals.![]()
It would be nice to see less salt in everything! I hate feeding my kids some of this crap that's out there. We completely stay away from McD's but in can or processed foods you just can't get away from salt. Probably why so many of us have high blood pressure in the first place.Sugar is as bad. If our senses weren't bombarded with this from birth the cravings may not be so bad. nor would diabetes , heart disease, etc etc etc. we are killing ourselves with convenience. I find replacing salt with garlic powder helpful and despite the bad breath helps with blood pressure.
