I was wondering if anyone wanted to start a support group with ppl around the height of 5'3" (my height)? I suppose you can be any weight, but I-myself am 136 Ibs. and I'm looking to drop to 120. I'm hoping that ppl around that same height can support each other in their endeavors to loose weight, b/c maybe if we're around the same height (and frame and weight) we can loose that weight together! So tell me if you're interested :]

I'm going for 1400 a day. Its funny cause I have had to make myself eat more, was 1200. But have seen a better outcomes with the 1400.

I was shooting for 1200 but I saw no results for a month so people said to up it since I was working out 3-5 days per week (300 to 500 calorie burn per work out).  So I upped it to 1600 but that has not worked either.  Soooooooo - I don't know what to tell you.  I've been at 130 for the past 2 months (and this is my starting weight this go around!).  So I'm at a plateau from the start.  LOL.......sigh.

Any tips from people who have actually lost weight at our height and have actually surpassed the 130 mark?  It seems to be a problem weight to make move.

I've heard that you have to sometimes shock your body. Do new excercises. If you run or whatever for time or distance try intervals. Change from low weights high reps to high weights low reps. This is done for about two weeks and you should see your plateau drop.

I've heard that too.  And last year that did work for me so others may want to try that.

As for me - to be honest I'm not sure exercise is my problem at this point.  I've tried all different types of exercises.  Interval, non-interval, weights (high), weights (low), no weights, upping my exercise, cutting back on exercise.  Nothing has done it.  So I'm thinking that food / calorie intake is my problem right now.  But then again - nothing has happened with that in last two weeks either.  Sooooo - I'm going back to 1200 and working out (maybe my time above 1200 will have made a difference now that I get back to 1200).  We'll see.

This sounds like a good place for me! I am 5 Foot Nothing! So as many of you know the shorter you are the less places you have to hide weight. I am 200 pounds at this time. The biggest I have ever been. In my younger days, I am 30 now. And before cancer and a full hystructium, I can't spell it. I was 130 pounds and a size 6. I have always been tone and built muscle eaisly, after doing hormone treatments and this that and the other all this weight just came. I am done with it. It has been 3 years and I want to be healthy again!! Any advise or support would be great. I just started this week and I have already lost 2.2 pounds. So maybe this is going to work out for me.

Good for you trying to get back down to your cozy weight! That is a major struggle and if you did all that, you can do this too. I am sure that the treatments have messed up your metbolism and stuff so be patient with yourself. I am so happy for you!

I was doing 1000 cals and exercising 5 times a week, straight cardio and was losing. That was last June, got married in August. As per usual, I quit working out but have tried to stay on the calorie count. After reading all the info here I upped my cals to 1200 and nothing was happening. Someone said to up it more, so I did. Still nothing. Do we really have to work out 5 days a week and eat 1200 just to lose slowly? I know myself and working out is not a lifestyle I will ever adopt. Maybe being so short our bodies don't need the 1200 as the average person would? I don't know...
I got a nasty gram today from a post I had. Do any of you really understand the BMR and cal deficit thing? I thought I finally understood it and then was told I am wrong! I am being told that I have to eat my BMR! I though the whole idea was to eat 500-1000 less than your BMR? Am I totally crazy?

I keep getting told that too b/c I am not losing weight.  I tried it and it didn't work.  I think they want to make sure that people are not only eating 1200 calories and then working out like 1000 calories to where your body is eating the muscle.  But I think as long as you are only getting a 500 to 1000 calorie deficit you're fine (I would just try to do the 1000 calorie deficit only 1-2 days and not make it the norm).

then again - I'm having issues losing any more weight so what do I know.  ;o)

I'll join!  I'm 5'2'' and weigh 135(ish).  I started on CC 2 weeks ago, after dieting on my own for a week before joining... and I've lost 3 lbs!  It's amazing what a little portion control can achieve.  (I have been classified as an overeater...).  Right now I'm aiming for 1300 cals/day and any support helps.

Sealedwelcome Linme! I have been reading back a few posts and see what people are saying about the BMR, it was hard to understand for me to but I think I get it now. For me i eat at least 1200 but no more then 1500 and I keep about 1000 difference in my two numbers. I have lost 3 pounds in the first week and a half so I hope that it keeps on keeping on. Good luck all!!

So I have to share my good news with you all.  After 2 months of a plateau at 130 this week's scale reading was finally at 128.5 - ugh soooooo excited.  I will take ANY weight loss at this point.  I can't believe I finally ended my plateau.

Oh - what finally did it you ask (well you didn't but I'll tell you anyway) - I tried EVERYTHING else with no results so I figured what the heck - I'm just going to take a long weekend from everything.  So I didn't work out, I ate take out food and sweets and anything else you can think of as if I wanted to gain 100 lbs -- then on monday I hopped right back on the wagon.  And yesterday - 1.5 lbs FINALLY gone!!!  Guess my body wanted a vacation.  I wonder what would happen if I took it to Cancun and pigged out and did nothing.  Hmmmmmm......

BUT - since I got over the plateau by taking a break.  Now what?  1200 / day with my normal exercise, 1800 / day.  I guess I'll have to experiment.  Any suggestions?

hhaussler...congrats to you! I wish I weighed 130! My goal is 135 and if I can get my fat butt to 150 I would be jumping for joy.

This BMR thing is killing me. I am going to try and eat my BMR which is 1473 and see what happens. Someone said I may gain for a minute but to stick to it because the weight loss that will follow will be huge. They also said that not eating your BMR slows your cal burn machine by telling your body that you are starving.

Also, I read an article that says you can burn around 380 cals a day by just being fidgety! My toes have been wiggling all day!

Hi everybody, my name is Jocelyn and I'm 5 feet tall too! Can I join your group?  I'm 26 and  today I weighed 128.8.  Over the past 2 years I've put on about 12-15 pounds and I'm looking to take it back off in time for my wedding in June.  I've been "starting" my diet and exercise plan since October.  I actually started it yesterday and I think that having other people to talk weight loss with will help me stick to it.  Most people I know don't want to hear about how I want to lose weight because I am by no means fat or chubby or thick or anything like that but I just want to look the way I know I can and fit into my clothes. Right now my "fat clothes" are tight. If there's anyone around my size who wants a buddy to stay on track with and be accountable to, please let me know.  Can anyone explain BMR and deficit numbers to me?  I'm lost.
FYI...down one more pound! I have been eating my BMR! I was at 1000-1200 cals before I was told it just isn't enough food. I was worried about eating so much but my body seems to appreciate the food!
So you're eating your BMR and then using your exercise calories as your deficit calories? Or are you not eating at a deficit at all?

I don't exercise at all. Just my daily movement, which isn't much. I work at a desk all day and watch TV when I get home. I did vacuum my house and got a nice little workout this weekend. My calculations are to eat 1460 cals a day! I am actually down more as of this morning to 154.5! Go to this site! Really opened my eyes! I also have been reading a lot about BMR because I was so confused about what CC was telling me versus other sites. CC says for me to eat 1200 and I was doing that, with a up and down result. So far eating more means losing more! Very exciting!

HI,

My name is Jenny and 5'3" and about 156.  I have been struggling with my weight for awhile.  And I was wondering if I could get some tips from you guys.  I know I need to get motivated to start working out for the first part but the eating part is really hard on me.  I love to eat.  I am trying to count calories but sometimes I just forget.  And sometimes I don't want to look at how many calories I am eating.

I guess in my head I don't want to ban the good food since I still want to enjoy it.

Welcome to the 5' club! I read your bio and my first concern for you is that you say you want people to help you control what you eat. Maybe it was worded wrong but we can't do that for you. It also says you love to eat...the good stuff!

Don't feel like you can't eat what you want anymore. That is not what changing your eating habits is about. I eat a piece of candy, a cookie, or have pasta when I want. I also eat more fruit than ever before. I have yet to incorporate any veggies. I hate them! I have been eating more lettuce and tomato! I know for nutrition sake I need to step it up, but I am just not ready.

No matter what I put in my tummy, I keep it at 1470 cals a day! That is the minimum my body needs to function, so when I go a tiny over, I'm good.  Been doing it for about a week and lost 2 lbs! I was trying 1000-1200 before someone told me about the BMR!

I had a Bit-o-Honey the other night! I enjoy some good pasta! Change up your noodle if you can to a wheat...I still eat the "bad" stuff because it is what I like. If you over eat normally, which is what I do, then changing your portions will be more difficult than watching cals. At least that is what I found. But, I have been on CC for 5 weeks and have gone from 159 to 154.5 this morning!

Get a little notebook and start writing down everything you eat! You won't forget that way! Don't ban food, enjoy it!

Thanks for the words of advice.  I have been pretty good at keeping a little bit of goodies in my diet but trying not to overdo it.  I am trying to get this whole diet stuff done.  I have been eating more veggies and fruit.  Not near what they say you should have in a day.  I have been trying to go to wheat bread and pasta and brown rice.  I know it is the little changes that help.  I have lost 3 pounds so far so let's hope for the best.
Yeah! Good for you. I can't leave my white foods for the brown. Maybe later on but it is hard enough adjusting to this. I can easily get in fruit but veggies are not my friend. I am thinking about making a veggie soup that I had from a privious diet. I could blend it so I could just chug it. I know I need them but I really hate them. Sealed
