I know foot cramps are sometimes caused by lack of potassium, fatigue or poor circulation of the foot, poor nutrition (this is definately not the factor) etc... what else is the reason for getting these numerous times in a day?? The past couple of days I have been getting 4 a day, in the same foot, it's freaking painful!!!

Any suggestions on how to prevent this, if theres a way? Thanks.

Also... not sure where to post this...got no replies while in health.... Thanks.

Dehydration and lack of magnesium are two other options. I take a chelated magnesium supplement (w/ calcium) to combat toe/foot/leg cramps, and with the exception of a real nasty one a few days ago, I seem to be improving.

Also, can come as a result of using a weak muscle, so the only way to help that is to make the muscles stronger... by using them - ugly ugly catch 22.

Mine cramp from Dehydration and cold.

Do you have cold feet? Tongue out

My dad was getting cramps from his body not converting Vitamin D into the right form.  He was getting all the right nutrients but for some reason just not processing them correctly.

I used to get cramps so bad it would make me jump out of bed in the middle of the night.  Everyone told me it was postassium deficiency but I was eating 2 bananas a day and it wasn't helping!  I went to a health store and was told that it was a lack of Calcium so I started taking a Calcium suppliment but it has Magnesium as well, so maybe it's the same as amethystgirl said...either way it works.

Someone mentioned that they get them from being cold, and I think this is right on. I run EVERY day and never get foot cramps, but during the school year when I have swim practice, I get them all the time, even at night when I am lying in bed because the pool is unbearably cold.

Did you find an answer? I am a bartender in a very busy bar and suffer from bad foot cramps on top of my foot. It goes in phases, months without sometimes, and almost always happens when I'm not at work. I put on an ace elastic brace to help the pain but I would really like to find a permanent solution. It woke me up out of a sound sleep.

When I went from training 2x a week to 5/6x, started to have these really painful cramps in my feet and in my legs, specially at night. I couldn't sleep... or rest. I was drinking lots of water, eating bananas everyday plus all sorts of nuts to get enough potassium and magnesium but still the cramps persisted.

I started taking a multivitaminic suplement (all kinds of vitamins and minerals) plus an extra magnesium suplement and the cramps went away. Once I had no cramps I dropped the extra magnesium and just take the multivitaminic.

I think it's hard to get all the vitamins and minerals you need from food, even when you have proper nutrition, especially when you  push yourself hard working out. Not impossible, but hard.
