I have heard that being over or underweight can stop your period or cause you to get it irregularly. Also, if you are stressed out that  can have the same result. You sure you aren't pregnant, though? You can still get your period on occation if you are pregnant.

Not pregnant! Although if I was it would be easier to explain the weight gain! I am trying to do a lot of things to reduce stress in my life, thanks for all the info!

overweight and no periods could be pcos... of course only your doctor can diagnose that!

There are medical conditions that can cause irregular periods.  I'm thinking especially of PCOS.   Another of the symptoms is weight-gain.   http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Polycystic-ovari an-syndrome/Pages/Introduction.aspx?url=Pages /what-is-it.aspx  This link will give you more information.   Of course, only your doctor can give you a complete diagnosis.

If I'm hypothyroid my period has stopped before. Are you tired/has your hair got thinner/is your skin dryer. If yes you need to tell the doctor and they'll fix it.

I feel your frusteration because I havn't had a period in over 4 months...and I am not pregnant. I don't have all of the PCOS symptoms...so I don't really think that is why for me....and I have never been very regular my whole life, so I guess this is a longer "stretch". When I was losing weight last year, and excersizing 3 days a week, it got more regular...so I am hoping it will again. Strange, isn't it?

Do you feel like you get PMS every so often still? That is how I feel...like I am on a hormonal roller coaster...UGH!

I agree with everyone...get your doctor to check your thyroid and for PCOS. I did that in July 2008 and got diagnosed as having both PCOS and a thyroid issue.  The doctor put me on some medication and I'm doing better now.  Before I was gaining weight really fast and its harder to lose with the PCOS.  But I've been able to lose 22 pounds since I started the medication.  It takes being proactive and doing your research before you go to the doctor.  I found a doctor in town that actually knew a lot about PCOS and knew what I was talking about.  He said that he could just look at me and tell I had it.  Turns out I've had it since I was in Jr. High #1 no one knew what it was back then and #2 when I would go with my syptoms to the doctor as an adult no one figured it out because I didn't ask.  My friend had it and I saw some articles on it...so I did my research and found a doctor that was great.  Good Luck !

I had the same problem but gyno diagonised that I have follicles in my ovaries. I'm on medication now. Check with your gyno soon.

I stopped having regular periods when I was 18. I went to the doctor and she told me I didn't have anything wrong with me and just put me on birth control. I am still not convinced that everything is "normal" because if I don't keep taking the bc I quit having periods again and when I get back on it I'll have two in one month. So as long as I take it I'm good.

Although I am not a doctor I am thinking along the lines of gi-jane also. PCOS is something to be aware of. Especially as it is constantly misdiagnosed and can cause fertility problems. Be aggressive about getting a good diagnosis and go for a second (and a third) opinion if you don't feel satisfied with the answer or if it doesn't return (and going on BC isn't the only option not is it a treatment for PCOS).

Polycystic ovary syndrome

I went without my period for many years thinking it was "normal" for me. I had no other side effects except some weight gain, which of course I assumed was because of my eating habits. I didn't get diagnosed til I was 16 and because I went for years without my period (I had my period/spotting for the first time when I had just turned 13) I can no longer have children. I wish I had told a doctor sooner before I started getting the other symptoms. So please, tell your doctor about it even if you think it's nothing.

Hello, I have never been normal with my periods, ever. When I was in my late teens/early 20's they just gave me birth control to regulate it. Then I stopped taking it and just didn't care...I am now 25 and a few months ago I went to a different doctor and they gave me metformin, which started them immedaitly. Well I ran out of the pills..and haven't went to the doctor again. But decided I didn't want to go back till I lost some weight. Well I have lost 17lbs and here is is February and I am just starting my second period...for the second month in a row!!! So being over weight was my issue on why I didn' thave them regular, and what everyone else has mentioned already PCOS is defintaley a possiblity.
