what should i do?

Quote  |  Reply

i found this site last december.i started at 59kg ang got down to 56 kg in may/june by eating 1500 calories a day(of course there were many times in this period when i ate more and when i overate so by no means was 1500 my consistent intake plus i don't own a food scale so i had to guess at many things as best as i could) and doing little exercise( pilates videos and for a month i did some 30 min cardio a day too).and the scale never showed a gain.

i was pretty happy about that although i was still a little flabby.

then in summer over two months i gained 6 kg.i was indeed overeating so it was not such a big surprise(and is it relevant if i took birth control pills for a month?i know it was stupid,i wanted to skip a period and my doctor knew about this btw)

and since september i've been trying to lose it but it's not happening!

i started exercising more(dvds)and eating 100 times better but still nothing.

my fitness level is higher,i am slightly more toned but none of my clothes fit better.i do have a binging problem but it's not so severe that i wouldn't lose a thing.(unless the theory based on "i overate today my whole efforts have gone to waste" is true)my average intake in say a month is overall less than my mainenance.during these months i kept losing the same 2 pounds.

it's been along time and it's frustrating(i had a little breakdown recently from all the frustration that's been acumulated but when i look back i kinda laugh about it though it was pretty dramatic).

so....what do i do now?

i'm ready to start something new.

btw.i'm 16 and 170cm tall

http://www.kidsnutrition.org/bodycomp/bmiz2.h tml  Start by putting your stats into this chart.   You are (62kgs) 136lbs and you are 67" tall.  GOOD NEWS!!! Your BMI is 21 which makes you very slim and an absolutely perfect weight for your height.  So you don't need to lose any weight at all..  Breakdowns not necessary any more.

Because your body is still developing and growing it needs good nutrition not restriction.  So read off the calorie intake appropriate for you (2200 - 2500) and aim to get that every day from as many good quality foods as you can.   80% foods 'for the neck down'... nutritious and wholesome.  20% of foods 'for the neck up'.... for fun.

If you've been trying to exist on 1500 cals when you need 2200-2500 you will end up bingeing... So that's another problem solved.  If your clothes don't fit... buy new ones.  A girl's body is differently shaped to a woman's body and I think that's what's happening to you.... very simply, you're getting a few womanly curves.

Being active every day is good for you so keep going there. If you learn how to eat healthily, eat regularly and if you're active then you'll never have a weight problem.  Start dieting when you don't need to diet and by the time you're 30 you'll have a weight problem.  Good luck

thank you for answering.

so if i exercise for 45 minutes on a stationary bike or do a 30 min exercise video a day and i eat 1800 cal a day to lose would that be good?

i wouldn't mind if the gain would have been gradual and  a result of growing up and all that but it was a result of 2 months of severe inactivity and overeating.oh well....

December 2007 (?) you were 59kgs, 15 years old, and now you're 62kgs and you're 16 years old....  I think that is a natural progression, don't you?  If didn't all happen in '2 months' which is what you're trying to make out.   You've tried getting down to 56kgs with six months of food restriction and your body didn't like it there... it made you overeat because it thought you were starving.  Got you cleverly back up to a better weight.  Bodies are smarter than we are... Smile

Do the exercise but take in the right amount of calories... ie 2200-2500.  You will tone up your muscles (solves the 'flabby' issue), you'll have more energy, you won't binge and you won't feel depressed due to malnutrition.

As I said before.... very young women that start dieting when they don't have to can 'diet themselves fat'.... Spend ages shaving off a few kilos only to regain it, plus a little more, a few months later.  The malnourished body clings onto your fat thinking there's been some terrible famine.   Repeat this yo-yo process often enough and you're not 62kgs but 70, 80, 90....  I know you're not listening to me and you'll probably do your diet anyway but just think about it.
