 I recently increased my activity level to light activity, in their description they say you participate in light excersice or long walks. I go for bike rides everyday and I have been slowly increasing how fast and how far I go. I also go swimming twice a week. Should I use my bike riding as my base workout? As in for my light excersice, and then add in extra things, like swimming or yard work, farm work, etc? I dont do those things everyday so they couldnt be my light excersice, right? But with the biking I feel as if I am doing a moderate excersice, I am sweating, have a hard time singing with my tunes.

Do you think I should add anything to my activity log or not? Thanks!

One thing about bikers is that they tend to get really big thighs from working their quads all the time. If you wouldn't mind that you could use biking as your main workout because it seems like you enjoy it a lot! Otherwise, it sounds to me like you're exercising moderately every day--if the stuff you're talking about isn't what you put in your original estimation of activity go ahead! It'll be more accurate that way, but if you guess less, then you could just be in for a pleasant surprise ;)

Not necessary true. I bike a lot and I don't think I have "big thights".

I agree with umneydurak...  i'm an avid cyclist too...riding an average of 20 miles a day... weather permitting... and i find that cycling makes my muscles more long, lean... legs, thighs, butt... even my arms get toned...  i'm 6 feet tall... and 160 lbs... and i'm not bulky with muscles at all...  

Go for the cycling... it burns a TREMENDOUS amount of calories... and TOTALLY justifies those extra calories you might want to indulge in!

Oh! and YES! Add the exercise you do to your activity log!!!!!! Oh Absolutely!!!!! That's the reward - to see the calories you've burned!!!  

One idea... i did this and i love it... and use it when i ride my bike...   you might consider getting a heart rate monitor... one that you can log your personal info such as - height, weight, age... and it will then give you the time of the exercise/activity you've done,  and gives you a VERY accurate reading on how many calories you burn no matter what you're doing...  NOW THAT is rewarding!!! It'll also put you in good touch with your body... which is always good.

I even logged my resting heart rate while sleeping...doing so periodically... Because the fitter you get, the lower your resting heart rate will be...   hah... i look for accomplishments anywhere i can... 

I love my Polar HR monitor... get one with at least 2 or 3 zones... it's a great tool.

Also sudden changes to resting HR are indicative of over training. So for people who train regularly it's a good thing to keep track of.

I have another questions for you... What do you do to avoid sore butt bones? I put a seat on my bike with extra suspension and it also has gel packs on it. I dont get as sore as I used to but I do still have some soreness. Thanks! Smile

Ah! I think this is a common topic for cyclists... a comphy saddle on a bike is a very individual thing... and unfortunately it takes trial and error...  I'm on my 4th saddle now... and i think i've found it...  Online they have articles and comments on bike saddles... and lots built just for women... so read as much as you can about them, and take a shot!  Gel is good... cut outs are good...  and a good pair of bike shorts with a chamois built into them... (padding) is a MUST!!!   THAT alone will help tremendously!  Good luck!
