it's awful isn't it.
don't worry I don't think you will go bald! since i started gaining 4 months ago i've lost quite alot of hair, i think this is due to the fact that your hair shows what your body was like 6 months ago, so if you were restricting about 6 months ago your hair will show it now. :(
i know it's really frustrating because your making such a big effort to gain and our bodies should be getting better not worse! but it will stop falling if you keep up the good eating :)

The condition of your hair is evidence of your nutrition three to six months prior to growth. If you have only just recently started eating 2500 a day, and were malnourished and not eating enough three months ago, that would be why you are experiencing this now.
FYI My hair did not start truly growing in noticably thicker until about two, maybe three months ago. Healthy fats rich in Vitamin E do help though - nuts, particularly almonds and walnuts I believe, are a great source of it. But any nut or seed is good, as is avocado and olive oil.
it's true. hair/nails/etc. have a kind of lagged effect. my hair did not start falling out until well after the worst stages of my ed were over. i've been in recovery for a few months and it still falls out pretty regularly, so i talked to a nutrtionist and i am incorporating more healthy fats as well as biotin into my diet.
Hi. I know when I refeed I have this and also break out in pimples. I always have felt it is my body just confused and going through so many changes. Almost like a teen going through puberty. Have you had blood work done though recently? Just a thought as it is better safe then sorry. It is probably just the course though your body is taking. I agree with others healthy fats, enough protein, and of course overall calories. Hopefully too as you get to a better weight you will be able to use more of the calories to repair. Do you take vitamins? That may help assist but of course not take the place. Lastly a litte non food tools that I have seen very helpful. To not wash your hair every day, don't over blow dry like try to let it air dry at least part way, flat irons are bad though I use them but they do damage hair,a protein rich shampoo and conditioner as well, less products used that can damage.
You were undereating previously, correct? Your hair reflects the state of your body three months prior. Your hair is taking the effects of undereating. It will grow back. I would also get a check to see if you are anemic if you have not done so already as this can also lead to hair loss. But again, it will grow back; I have a full head of hair again (as can actually be seen in my before/after!) but this growth will only progress if you keep your calories up.

No, I haven't had blood work done, I'm really scared of needles and my doctor asked me if I wanted it done or not, and of course- I didn't.
And yes I do take vitamins!
Annnnnd yeah I only wash my hair like once a week (it doesn't get greasy) because everytime I wash it a lot of hair comes out and it freaks me out. ![]()

Yes, I was. And thanks for the advice. I have a doctors appointment in June and I'll ask her about it. ![]()
It sounds like a case of telogen effluvium, but only your doctor or dermatologist could tell you for sure.
Don't be afraid of blood tests! Yeah needles hurt, but it's only for a second. It's amazing what they can find from just that itty bitty amount of blood.
Just so you know, don't worry about not washing your hair often. It's actually good for it - I experienced post-ED hairloss, (still am!) and the natural oils your hair produces actually help your scalp. So leaving them on your head for a bit longer than normal by not washing is actually good for your hair !
Yeah, I experienced this after about a month of recovery. Unfortunate! It's got a lot thicker recently (after 2-3 months) so keep eating and it'll get much better. Also, you could try asking your hair dresser to give you help thickening your hair: I got shorter layers cut in and a fuller fringe, which really helped!
You need bloodwork done. No one likes needles but it is better to catch something early. I am not saying there is something wrong but it is better safe then sorry. Really I have no clue why docs give a choice like this. So when you go in June I would encourage you to get it done. This post is reminding me I need a hair cut.
are there any sucess stories on here...i feel like all this hair loss stuff is so negative notihng is positive probably because when it stops no one gets back on to write about it which is really discouraging!
Well for me I started to lose my hair quite badly it just came out in big chunks especially when I washed it, this started as well when I had just begun eating better. Sometimes the effects of your undereating can be delayed somewhat.
My hair still isnt great but its definately not as bad as it used to be. The sooner you begin to eat properly consistently the sooner can you can stop these things happening and get them repaired.
Try and eat some foods that are good for your hair as well. I also switched for a while to using a natural type of thickening shampoo that had no added chemicals etc as I thought it would be gentler on my hair. I think it was called Jason Natural or something like that, there are others about though could be worth a try.
