day
weight gainers what do you spend your day doing ?besides nurishing your bodies work? school? im looking for ideas to fill my days and im just interested how others spend there time
sorry this thread is a bit old, but i had read it a few days ago and was thinking about some suggestions.
i am not a weight-gainer, nor do i have an ED, BUT i completely understand the feeling of having way too much time. once i was released from a psychiatric hospital and had no real responsibilities because i was "too fragile", i was completely overwhelmed by my new-found amount of free time. i wasn't consumed by my depression as i was before, and i wasn't expected to work or do school work, so i had nothing else to do. before, if i had free time it didn't matter because my depression took up most of my day anyway. sound familiar?
the thing that helped me the most was writing again. i know you are a wonderful writer because i have read your poems on your journal. this is my suggestion, and it might be crazy, but i hope you consider it.
firstly, have you heard of nanowrimo? it is a self-competition to write a 50,000 word novel in one month (november, which is rapidly approaching). maybe you could write memoirs of your life with an ED. this may help your recovery, but if you don't feel strong enough and like it might trigger ED thoughts, don't do it. but you could still write fiction, poetry, or just a bunch of nonsense. 1,667 words per day. it knocks a couple of hours out at least.
second, do you have a coffee shop near your home, some kind of sit-down cafe? my thought was that for the month of november, you could make it a goal to try to go to a coffee shop and if you have a laptop, bring that, if not, bring a notebook and a pencil or four, and work on your novel/auto-biography/collection of poems/whatever you decide. every day (if they're open). schedule it in and do it. and then if you want to get really risky, try to challenge yourself to have a FULL FAT latte or whatever you like, and later on even a scone or piece of cake if they serve that kind of thing. every day.
if people see you coming in every day, they are going to want to get to know you, want to know what you're working on, etc. BAM. instant socializing. BAM. instant friends. i think this is a good first step, instead of just throwing yourself into extremely social environments. i find that difficult, and it may overwhelm you. writing in a coffee shop will knock out anywhere from 2-4 hours, you can talk to people but don't HAVE to (but at least you will be around them, so you'll feel part of the world again), and plus, you will be releasing your emotions and energy into the words on the page (most important part).
please, please consider this. i don't know you well but i follow your journey kind of stalkerishly (sorry!) and i think this could be really good for you. let me know what you think. i'll understand if you don't feel like doing it.
yhankyou so much for spending time to write , it may be and old post but it still is a real issue for me . that sounded very familar. infact if i didnt know id say it was about me and the way i am feeling. firstly im so glad you managed to find something . i think the ideas are really good and i am definitely going to pursue them the latte and cake is particuarly appealing :). i also have a feel love of writing thanks h x
Hey helen, I'm not recovering from an ED either but I thought I'd share with you what I do when I'm bored.
- service (I volunteer weekly at a nursing home and go more often if I have the time)
- cooking (I don't know if this is triggering since you're recovering from an ED, but I love trying out new healthy recipes)
- reading (I know this can get boring after a while, but an hour of reading every day is good)
- piano (I play the piano, but if you dont know an instrument why not try to learn? it would be fun and since you have the time, you could totally do it)
- sewing (I don't know how to do this but I've always wanted to learn!!)
- watching TV (again, this is boring after a while but a couple of hours of TV each day surely does pass the time)
- shopping (you don't have to buy anything, window shopping is fun!)
- halloween decorating
- getting involved with your church (i'm in the choir and that takes up about 3 hours each week)
- organizing (go through something each week)
- redecorating (you don't have to buy new furniture, but just rearranging things can be refreshing)
- primping yourself (getting your hair done, getting a manicure/pedicure, waxing, massage, etc.)
Hope some of this helps :)
thanks jcl7 im glad your not suffering from an ed :) its grt to have ideas from someone who hasnt , all of the things you mentioned interest me thanks again h x
